Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt made the Sunday morning talk show rounds in an effort to defend President Donald Trumps decision to exit the Paris climate accord. Pruitt repeatedly argued the climate agreement would harm the U.S. economy, particularly coal industry jobs.
Pruitt make several misleading and inaccurate statements during his tour of the television networks. The EPA chiefs biggest fib was probably his statement, made on multiple shows on Sunday, that the coal industry has grown by 50,000 job over the last few months.
No data exists from government or industry sources to back up the claim that the industry has seen such a dramatic surge in coal mining jobs over this time period. In fact, the average number of coal mining jobs increased by only 586, or about 1.1 percent during the first three months of 2017, according to a report from S&P Global Market Intelligence, citing data from the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration.
Since the end of 2016, the number of coal industry jobs has remained relatively steady in almost all regions of the United States, except the Central Appalachia region. In this region, the number of coal mining jobs grew from slightly below 15,000 to slightly above that number from January to March.

(888 posts)Al Gore said a bunch with that statement with regards to coal.
I think it speaks for itself.
Donald Trumps coal mining political rhetoric, won him the election,
you won enough votes, southern Wisconsin, Michigan, Western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, Eastern Kentucky.
Now give it a rest already

(888 posts)But the jobs are not coming back, and they know it, but who are you going to vote for?
Somebody that promises you something that cannot deliver or put you out of business?
Despite being almost out of business, throwing your beer at your old Zenith console before you get up and go out to collect your welfare check.
Don't bring up the whole Solyndra government bailout, you know, only Tesla can accept stimulus money. After all, they are Republicans

(888 posts)Most people don't realize,
China as its people step into the 21st century, it's those billions of poor people requiring electricity,
was by far the next big problem with global warming,
India was not far behind is the potential problem classification.
Just imagine how much shit America puts in the atmosphere .
with only 20 percent of the population of China and 25 percent of the population of India.
Now, instead of going through the Industrial Revolution, with coal. They can move straight to renewables.
A lot better for the atmosphere. Interesting article. Thank you it calmed me down about the future

(232 posts)...at least based on 2014 employment data (76,572 total). Probably even more than 2/3, since I imagine that end-of-2016 employment in coal was even less than in 2014.
