Also: Carter was right.

selling out to Putin, controlling the house/senate/presidency, taking away people's healthcare, enriching their Wealthy base/ cronies, smearing Democrats, and telling HRC to STFU.

carrying his own suitcase when he moved into the White House.

OMG, it's hard to fathom the crap that's going on now, much less compare it to anything.

I may have been too young to pick up all the details, and maybe Carter wasn't as good of a president as I remember. But the biggest blow to Carter's presidency was probably the gas crisis, which IMO was probably Big Oil deciding that they didn't want a conservationist in the White House. Carter was working towards renewable energy in the 70's! And Reagan unraveled everything. Can you imagine how much further along we could be now, if Carter's policies and goals had been met?

Probably hit the nail on the head. Market manipulation by forces that wanted to influence the direction of the next election.

What I remember is his response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He decided we should boycott the 1980 Olympics, which just seemed passive-aggressive, and led to the Soviets boycotting the 1984 Olympics. He also reinstated draft registration. Not good.

Reagan was a liar, a smiling and facile one, and that's what lots of people want.
