No rehearing for imprisoned ex-Illinois Governor Blagojevich

A federal appeals court on Monday refused to reconsider its recent decision upholding former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich's corruption conviction and 14-year prison term.

The order from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago likely ends Blagojevich's chance for a new trial or shorter sentence unless he can persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to take up his case, a long shot.

Leonard Goodman, a lawyer for Blagojevich, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In its April 21 decision, the appeals court rejected arguments that Blagojevich deserved leniency because of his good behavior during his five years in prison, and because parts of his original 2011 conviction had been thrown out.

of Blagovich, but he has paid a heavy price while others in government and finance seem to get away with much worse offenses with no consequences.

Comey during the Clinton emsil investigation is another example of where he wanted transparency. Should he had done things differently ? I guess that is open for debate. However, I think that history will view him kindly on not interfering with either the Clinton or Trump investigations. The rest of the government and it's institutions, not so much.

However, Blagovich has done 5 years behind bars. He has a wife and young daughter if I recall. Considerig that we have seen much worse abuses of power go unpunished, is it enough ?

7. A jury of his peers handed down a sentence, let him serve it. No special treatment

because he is a politician. If he becomes eligible for parole and convinces the board he should be released, that's fine, but he deserves absolutely zero special consideration or treatment.

They are worse than foreign attackers. They should be subject to the heaviest criminal penalties.
