he's looking at this as his "out"? Perhaps he knows the testimony will reveal obstrucion of justice, impeachment proceedings would be inevitable, and then he can resign to "spare the country"? Add to that he "iced" the WH Russia War Room idea, maybe because it won't be needed since he wants to quit?
God I hope so.

(82,849 posts)Someone, somewhere got it through the president's head that between his incessant tweeting on the subject and the fact that Comey was fired, there is nothing he can do to stop Comey's appearance before the committee.
Which doesn't mean that Trump won't be complaining about it all later, when it doesn't turn out all beer and skittles for him.

He knew he'd lose in court if he tried to block Comey. They're on to discredit him, and whatever they call it , they still are churning out the propaganda. He's meeting w leadership to coordinate messages before hand. He just doesn't want to make it look planned.
He is too narcissistic to ever resign.

(1,018 posts)He's stupid and has a bit of dementia. He probably does not understand the implications and/or he thinks he can win. After all, he can shoot someone in the street and still be POTUS. More likely his advisors are looking for an "out" and fine with Comey giving testimony. LOL

(25,895 posts)He's a complete and total narcissist, and other people aren't fully real to him. He honestly thinks he's a great President, the best! and that his Inaugural crowds were vastly larger than that loser Obama's and that global warming isn't real, or at least has nothing to do with humans, and that all those pesky regulations are driving too many good businesses out of business.
He is thoroughly convinced that anything at all that doesn't match his version of reality is fake or a lie of some kind. He honestly believes that most Americans support him and the ones that don't are just losers who don't matter anyway. He hasn't a clue that almost everything he's done and wants to do while in office will wreck people's lives. Plus, he views everything as a business deal and a negotiating tactic. It was pretty obvious to begin with, but he made that crystal clear by saying he'll pull out of the Paris Accords and renegotiate. Wrong. It's not up for renegotiation, but he doesn't realize that.
If he does leave office other than on a January 20th, he will be promptly trying to sue everyone he thinks responsible. Oh, and if by some vast horror he is re-elected in 2020, prepare to see him try to overturn the 22nd Amendment, possibly by Executive Order. Failing that, he'll try to somehow simply install one of his sons in the Oval Office. Again, he knows nothing at all about the Constitution or how our system actually works because he thinks government is just another kind of business.
