NYT Opinion piece is brilliant. Predator in Chief and James Comey

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/06/08/opinion/james-comey-and-the-predator-in-chief.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share&_r=0&referer

"In the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape, Mr. Trump said of any woman he wanted: “I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.” And he added: “Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” With the power of the presidency at his disposal, Mr. Trump thought that he could use the psychology of coercive seduction on the nation’s chief law enforcement officer.

Victims of sexual harassment often face skepticism, doubts and accusations when they tell their story. That’s part of the predator’s power. But I’m here to tell James Comey, and all the women and men who have suffered at the hands of predators, I believe you."

Author connects Trump's behavior toward Comey to his Access Hollywood tape statements about how he treats women.

I love one of the comments on the article where some dolt says Comey was very big, should have been able to handle it.

The idiots trying to exonerate Trump are acting like the "hope" expression was said in a vacuum, that it's just hope (!), and that the context wasn't significant at all. Context is everything with language of course, as every language philosopher has ever told us. The president ordering everyone out of the room to say "I hope" to Comey isn't some innocent expression of "hope." It's so stupid and so dishonest for them to pretend otherwise.

Why don't these geniuses think how they'd feel if a teacher said "I hope I can see more of you outside of class" to a young student asking about a low grade? Or a boss saying to an employee "I hope we can go out on a date someday?" Or a police chief saying to the new guy (as in Serpico) that the corrupt guy being investigated is a "good guy...maybe you can see a way to let this go?"

Oh I forgot, Trump is just too dumb to know the rules/laws. Wonder if that works for your average person in court? It doesn't, does it...

when trump said he'd invite Comey's family next time, I was concerned that trump was aware Comey had a family. Call me crazy, but I felt that trump was menacing Comey in the broadest possible terms.

He doesn't actually threaten people in a real or serious way. He's used to bluster and bullying that usually gets people to do what he wants. His employees are the best ever until they disappoint him in some way, then he fires them, which is what he did to Comey. So as far as Trump is concerned, it's all over. Plus, I saw on the interwebs this morning that Trump is saying that he won, Comey lied, let's move on. He's delusional, of course.

Not to mention he doesn't always pay his contractors, but that's quite different from this topic.

He showed what he wanted people to see. Now, we'll see exactly how he operates. My cynical old brain read a very vague threat into trump mentioning Comey's family. I hope I am wrong, but I don't trust trump.

Trump was definitely menacing Comey. I think it was just a bit more subtle than he's done with others because I honestly think Comey intimidates the shit out of Trump (it is so obvious on the tape of Trump blowing kisses at Comey, wtf, and summoning him over to try to hug him -- Comey resisted the hug and just shakes his hand, and Trump stares up at Comey stunned at how tall he is -- because Trump is so self-obsessed he doesn't notice others until he wants to use them for some person -- and Trump's face looks like a scared little boy, a toddler, or the bully-loser meeting the new guy who can kick his ass.

...by proximity to Donald Trump's White House -- I've been wondering what he did or said to them that brought them over even momentarily? (I say momentarily because it seems Rosenstein has learned his lesson, or so I hope. McMasters is toast.) Now we know what kind of seduction scene he sets. Rubio and Cotton were utter fools to come to dinner at his bidding the other night.

Comey escaped intact from Trump because his instincts are good and his ethical sense is that strong, and I say that as one who was absolutely outraged at his treatment of Hillary last year. Trump and his creepy lawyer are attempting character assassination against Comey now, but I don't think it's going to work.

Trump is going down hard. Not today and not next week, but he's going down.
