He managed to carve out a unique and steady career despite the industry's ridiculous type-casting mindset.

The Adam West series was responsible for giving me a scar on my knee that I've carried for 50 years - the week before the series premiered in the UK, there were daily promos on the TV for the forthcoming show. Each day, the announcer would say "7 more days to go...6 more days to go...5 more days to go" etc etc. followed by a teaser clip. We had just moved house, and on one of those days the TV started playing another promo while I was playing in an old tea chest my parent had used to shift belongings - I scrambled out of the chest, but in my haste to get to the lounge I sliced my knee open on some razor-sharp metal on the edge, resulting in much blood and a 2-inch long wound !
