(39,324 posts)So glad she's a voice for sanity
Aerows
(39,961 posts)in a world that seems to think that being insane is, if not a virtue, preferred.
I hope the world wakes up before it does itself in, because we cannot keep going on with three year old mentality ruling it, while it runs around with matches.
I have to think even the conservatives see it at this point, but you never know. Many of them have fallen under the spell of "burn the world down" ideas, as though they won't burn with it.

(10,021 posts)If she ever ran for office, she'd have my vote. Strong, opinionated, independent, smart, witty, pro-choice, anti-war and so cool - all the things conservatives hate in a woman. I know, I was once married to one!

(4,309 posts)I love Gloria! She has been so right on about so many things for so many years - and she is absolutely right about this, as well! I am so glad we actually have a president who respects women and supports reproductive rights. Those rights are in jeopardy if a Republican wins.

(3,626 posts)it seems obvious that you don't want to know, either. So that means you're either incredibly lazy and incurious, or perhaps just trollish.

(63,912 posts)when Steinem was writing and active in the Women's Movement of the late 1960s and 70s. If you go to your local library and look up Feminism in those years you'll find her books as well as many other women authors' works. Fascinating stuff. But be careful. You might find yourself out of your comfort zone. It's pretty heady stuff...

(63,912 posts)something! Drop dead gorgeous in her aviator glasses and long legs. And her long, swingy hair. A lot of women tried to look like her so she was kind of a fashionista but in a very serious way. Progressive men adored her (I can't speak for the RW men of the time since I wouldn't give them the time of day...). Feminists adored her.
It was a great time for the women's movement. We were winning on issues that young women (and young men) today would find hard to believe. For instance, did you know that up until the late 1960s the Help Wanted ads were segregated by sex in the newspapers, so if you were a woman looking for a job you had to look under "Help Wanted - Female"? Stuff like that was going on.
You can probably find some footage on her on YouTube.
If you do some research, I think you'll be amazed at her...

(37,364 posts)the feminist movement. She contributed so much at a time when women had precious few ways to contribute to and participate in American society.
Right now, I'm feeling creakingly ancient to see such a remark. When I was young adult, she was one of our role models. She's not a lot older than me, but much of what she said contributed to the adult woman I became.

(10,611 posts)It boggles the mind that people think they're two sides of the same coin.
I only hope enough people get out there and override the voter suppression efforts so we don't find out the hard way that that is not the case.
