If any Senator will make Jefferson Beauregard Sessions squirm, will be Al! Take the gloves off and go for the jugular!

(1,007 posts)Unbelievable that GOP has come to such that they cannot even see how stupid their rhetoric is!!!

(18,837 posts)The book that made me "politically aware" was Al's "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them."
I'm not sure why I picked it up...curiosity, a fan of his work on SNL, I don't know. I read virtually no "political content" at the time.
When I bought the book (as a hardcover new release at Barnes & Noble), I had no idea who Karl Rove was,
Simply put, Al opened my eyes to the political world around me. That's how I found DU...after reading the book I wanted to know more about Rove, as well as everything else in the book. I don't have an exact recollection of the moment that I became a member, but I do know that a Google search on Rove led me to DU, and the rest...as they say...is history.

He led you to DU, you just led me to buying his book. THAT'S effective propaganda. He's a book-selling genius!

(1,999 posts)I didn't even know who Al Franken was. I had quit watching SNL around the time the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players gravitated elsewhere and I started raising babies and teaching Sunday School.
I owe this man eternal gratitude for the part he played in my evolution.

I'm not from Minnesota but I'll be happy to vote for you when you run for POTUS.

(11,571 posts)I brought up Al Franken's name, because I thought, and still think, his comment about "no country in the world rushing to copy our health care model" is very pithy and sums the situation up succinctly.
Her response was "Al Franken? What has that idiot ever done."
"Well, he wrote for the most successful comedy show of all time, appeared on it often, has been nominated for 12 Emmy awards and won 4, as well as 2 Grammy awards. He has written several best-selling books, graduated cum laude from Harvard, was given a fellowship at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and has been elected to the US Senate. What have you done? Oh, that's right. You own a gun store. Well done you."

(42,862 posts)He makes me proud to be a DEMOCRAT. He's a DEMOCRAT with honor, integrity, class and style. He's got a warm and calm DEMEANOR, and he never hesitates to show RESPECT. His folksy manners are a part of his CHARM and his sincere and genuine sense of HUMOR helps to put everyone at ease. Still... he never loses focus on what's important and who our REAL ENEMY is. He know and understands that it's the GOP who are the REAL THREAT to our nation.
