but it will only last for a few hours, a few days, or a few months. Not years, like it was in the late 30's thru the 80's. I know there were time when things were tense, but for the most part we were all one nation. These days, each party, each person, each corporation has their agenda. The rhetoric is not just coming from one side. It is all over the news, social media and shock jocks who ramp up the rhetoric by the things they do and say. Yesterday, Newt Gingrich said that the left are cruel and fowl mouth people(paraphrasing). He went on to say holding a bloody head and the language from the left is disrespectful that lead to what happened yesterday, at the Alexandria ball field. Yes, it is tragic that we can't do the things we enjoy, without looking out for violence. Well Old Newty! You were one of those who backed the leader of the right wing hate. You stood silently while Trump told people to be violent towards the media, while Trump bragged about grabbing a woman's private parts, while Trump lied about everything from his taxes to his experience to make America great again. You also never came out to condemn that rhetoric about what the right was saying about Pres. Obama and the signs that were made with a noose and a sight scope. Your self righteousness doesn't fly! I respect you for freedom of speech, but I won't respect you for your outlandish comments!

(1 post)We are in a period of realignment. The failure of the media to cover the Bernie Outsiders as a relevant faction which threatens the standing system will continue to cause outrageous behaviors from both sides. Both Reality Winner and James Hodgkinson were worn down by the propaganda state. They are not alone. The interconnection of Russiagate as a diversion away from the rigged election not only helps to marginalize the first antiestablishment president in recent history; it helps to marginalize the Bernie Revolution. McCartheistic energy allowed the villification of both communism and socialism. The number of misdeeds that have been done by US operatives around the world in the name of capitalism is grotesque. The deep state is loaded with actors who have adapted into that history. How can they possibly allow a Democratic Socialist into the presidency? They will marginalize the Sanders movement. Democracy in this country is on life support, while cutthroat capitalism is the only quality that we've exported in recent years. The demand for change is readily established and the system demonstrates that it is rigged throughout. I have lived my life in a propaganda state. I and many others are now grappling with this fact. We are at the precipice of a revolution. In some regards the revolution already happened and was not televised.
This is a heavily censored forum with a huge number of reasons to reject a message and no clear statement that we will know when we are censored. I do not trust this site but will test it out.

Btw, the media actually inflated Sanders' standing as a candidate in order to create a much closer "horse race" picture than existed through most of the primary. Just as one example among hundreds, the day he literally could no longer win enough delegates to become the nominee (not enough were left up for grabs), having failed to take a majority in the state that voted the day before, the NY Times buried that little datum in smaller print than anything else on the page, below a large headline claiming the fatal vote the day before signaled another Bernie "surge." Just a continuation of their chosen theme all the previous months.
But, hey, we can at least agree the coverage of the election was dangerously corrupt and dishonest, to the point of undermining our democratic processes, right?

(652 posts)I will, however, continue to hope that the majority whip (whose name escapes me) and others who got shot return to health.
The rhetoric from the right points to their continuing extreme hypocrisy. They are a cruel, spineless, traitorous, dishonest, and heartless bunch of people. What they do and say angers me.
They are not interested in unifying and they are the direct cause of what is tearing our country apart. They, IMO, are not interested at all in benefiting the majority of the citizens whose interests they represent. To the extent that they are serves one purpose -- to get re-elected.
I have advised my college-aged children to prepare with an eye to moving to another country if the situation worsens in coming years. By this I mean that they should complete their educations with an eye toward becoming someone another country would welcome as an immigrant -- a positive addition to their population.

(16,245 posts)We are not "one family". Ryan and his ilk have been shitting on the rest of us (anyone not a straight white male) for years. So yeah, they can stick that unity bullshit right where the sun don't shine.
