Thank the doctors, thank God, or any higher power.
Lots of rehab ahead but he might even be able to run again.

(15,290 posts)I wonder if he'll appreciate those sidewalk curb cuts and wheelchair ramps into/out of buildings? You know the "unfunded mandates" Republicans always yammer about? I'll bet he'll like the accessibility requirements of the ADA, too, although he probably opposes that act on principle.

(149,699 posts)He could very easily have died from that gunshot wound. Abdominal wounds are dangerous.

(22,976 posts)As with all political adversaries, no sensible Democrat wishes them harm. They are our family, friends and colleagues. Vigorous debate, and different visions for America, yes, but all in spirited peace and goodwill. To be otherwise is to abandon Democratic principles.
I hope Rep. Scalise continues to heal, and that his life has many, many years yet to go.

(16,829 posts)Organ damage - could be kidney, small intestine, colon, bladder...
I would guess that the colon was probably in the line of fire, spilling fecal matter into the abdominal cavity. That would result in a temporary colostomy and a high risk of peritonitis.
And then there's the possible musculoskeletal and nerve damage.
Its a lousy place to be shot.
