(129,561 posts)For example, Tom Coburn used to do this (disrupt bills including unanimous consent ones) just on principle - i.e., putting a "hold" on a bill. It would require a cloture vote to break (which takes time).

(51,636 posts)I have been resisting like mad and I do know how to do that and am learning through experience. Can't they do something legal and within the rules of the Senate? I don't mean an unrealistic movie-type action like Mr. Smith Goes To Washington but SOMETHING/ANYTHING?

My head spins.

(14,276 posts)They are planing to destroy our economy and our society. Senate Democrats and moderate Republicans are out last line of defense.
It's to bad that moderate Republicans are as common as leprechauns.

(7,533 posts)But the Republicans have 54 seats in the Senate. If quorum rules apply, they'd need at least five Republicans to stay home with them to have less than 50% attendance. I think.
