please save the analysis that "it was close" or "we really chipped away in a deep red district".
ALL that matters is winning. Period. It's like that in every, single election now.

(10,437 posts)pressuring every race...winning would be awesome but another narrow loss is almost as good as win in this case. Set lets keep the pressure up right thru 2018

(25,183 posts)then we pissed away a lot of dollars, too. Rethuglicans have money, Democratic voters don't, by and large. And we certainly can't spend all the millions per district that were used here.
We have to hope that Trump screws up enough to alienate the GOP. That may well not have happened tonight.

NO, it's not the end. It's an ongoing fight, and fight we shall.

(68,689 posts)coming close in a deep red state is a good thing for us , I hope we win, but I always knew it would be a heavy lift...oh and welcome to DU.

That is indeed, the simplistic, narrow and short perspective many people accept without inspection, reason or rationale; a view I've come to realize is as much a priority as is commercial branding and charisma in choice of candidate.

(333 posts)My first vote was for Johnson in '64. The Civil Rights era was hell. Vietnam was Hell. Hell ... there was just a lot of Hell for decades.
But underlying that Hell you knew that somewhere, maybe shoved deep, was some basic sanity. That no longer is true.
There was a time when "coming close" would put the breaks on extremism. No more. The Right Wing knows it has a limited shelf life if for no other reason then that they are all dying off. They also know that their time is NOW. There is NO incentive to moderate. In fact, the only incentive is to burn it all down as fast as they can. Either they get their Right Wing Extremism, or they take us with them.
You know what getting close is? Same thing it is in sports. It's a LOSS. That's it. This is America with the attention span of a gnat. There are no pyrrhic victories worth a tinker's damn. All that matters is who controls. Those 70k or so votes that got Hillary close last Nov? Means spit.
If we don't win does that mean we quit or give up? Well of course not. But there is no time anymore. We are at the end. We must win. Nothing else matters.

(11,109 posts)I appreciate that everyday with Trump has been very painful - but - it's really wicked early yet for Trump to start causing the GOP to lose strong GOP districts. The GOP is having to spend A LOT of money and sweating what should be easy elections. The Dems getting unprecedented numbers in red districts suggests that 2018 will be a good year (if Trump lasts that long).
Keep your eyes focused on the long-term. Don't give up. Organize, speak out and VOTE.

(16,245 posts)Nothing matters. Nothing we do can ever matters. No amount of protest, or activism, or anything will ever turn this country into anything other than a shithole. Because easily half or more of Americans are completely evil assholes.
I've stopped caring. Will not vote, will not lift a fucking finger for anything other than what's best for me.

(31,261 posts)If you don't participate, republicans win. Lots of people in the Georgia 6th claimed to be worried about Trumpcare passing. I want Handel to get sworn in to vote for Trumpcare then defend her vote in 2018 after the damage. Also, Ossoff must move to the 6th to make that a non issue in 2018.

(152 posts)so hard. Just seeing only ONE of them..just one..arrested and charged or even openly brought in for questioning.
It's as if they are all bullet proof, they just go on and on. Kushner was trying to set up a back door communication set with Putin, Russia. His sister in law is selling citizenship to the highest bidder. And this fkr can't even get his top secret clearance pulled. They are doing everything in committees and closed sessions and private investigations as if WE DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW.
Day after day it's a litany of crime; you can't even fricken keep up. And it's...oh we got him now! This is it! Breaking news! The smoking gun! Then.. Nothing. I've done it all. Vote. Help get people to polls. March. Call my Senators and House rep. I'm about to tune out. Just live my life and hope for the best.

(2,064 posts)one of the more common complaints by swing voters about the Democratic Party is a coastal elitism they perceive, and they feel as though they are being patronized or condescended to. Doesn't make it true (like the screw job Trump & the GOP have in store for them), but it's their perception. We need to change that perception. A good first step would be talking to them as equals...
Hearts & minds people... we win that - with a little help from Trumps policy failures - and the tide will turn mightily.

(16,672 posts)And i dont give a damn what the fox news brigade who deserve that label thinks.
I am tired of beating our heads against the wall with some of them. If they think i am condescending i guarantee you you it's not going to hurt them as bad as what their side is going to do with them. Then maybe they'll wake the hell up.
I am out of fucks to give about their feelings when 25 million people are on the verge of loding their health care.

(2,064 posts)But we still need to pick off 3% that are by and large unaffiliated but open to reason.
Even in places like suburban Atlanta they exist, and they are growing in number. I would just like to speed up the process, as I'm too damn old to wait for all the racist/misogynist/homophobic greedy assholes to die off...
nini
(16,672 posts)those types aren't going to die off as they are replaced with more of the same mindset.
The type you speak of do not exist in the deep red areas - which is exactly why we fight the battles in battleground areas..not crazy ass right wing strongholds.
I just saw an article on facebook where some lunatic saying liberals are with ISIS and that's the battle the righties are fighting for them. Those deep red people believe that stuff - we are satan loving, baby eating monsters in their eyes and the baby jeebus is on their side!!
I'm not saying we don't need that 3% or so.. but we certainly need to pick our battles in where we do that. Some areas are simply lost causes whether we like it or not.

(3,145 posts)If the GOP lost an election in a navy blue district by only a few points when the last election was a double digit loss they'd be on teevee spinning it as a WIN for them.
They'd have Paul Ryan in front of the camera saying "This result shows that even in a Democrat district people are tired of Nancy Pelosi and the Far Left!"
Instead of letting them gloat in their win we should use every medium to rub it in their face that we wrecked their once safe lead.

(5,240 posts)where your values matter. Move to states where a majority of the population cares for each other. Let the nuts live in states that represent them. I live in Wisconsin and Ryan and Walker will win again. We have lost a war where we weren't prepared to stoop to their level to win. As soon as I can, I will move to where I will feel comfortable and where I don't cringe when I pay my state income tax. Someplace where the state governments doesn't endlessly preach about God and family while they screw people over. Sadly I think the federal government is lost to us and the only refuge will be the state where you live.

(3,145 posts)Hope you enjoy paying out the ass for even the shittiest apartment or be one of 30+ offers for a modest house in a so-so neighborhood. Wages are waaaaaay behind the cost of living unless you're tech or weed.
And nothing quite says "Colorado" like walking along the Cherry Creek Trail on a beautiful day only to have your pleasant walk rudely interrupted by some asshole bicyclist screaming "Get the fuck out of the way!"
I've checked out the Green Bay area. Like it. Down to Earth people, lots of jobs and affordable housing. I can put up with Walker and Ryan if I don't have to deal with nearly getting run down by some spandex wearing jerkoff on a two wheeler while walking home from my $10.50/hour job to my $998 1 bedroom apartment.
