Some women support misogyny, some POC support racism and white supremacy

i am surprised to hear that most people on a board that consistently likes to call other people dumb, don't know that.

These numbers are not huge but they exist.

Is that really surprising to you?

7. The ones in the spotlight, yes. But many regular people out there

who are minorities one way or another are subconsciously biased against their own group. Many women are more comfortable letting men lead than accepting that women can also lead just as effectively. I can't speak for people of color, but I suspect the same is true there as well. When your entire society tells you that something is true, it takes a strong and independent mind to decide that everyone else is wrong and that your own gut feelings are right. Most people are not that strong and independent.

9. There are a few POCs subconsciously baised against their own group. The vast majority...no.

Those that are used to be called Uncle Toms. They do exist but believe me, are few and far between.

Most of us are smarter than to lap up such foolishness.

10. How do you explain this:

To be fair, they're children, but I'm not sure it's possible to completely erase such biases through conscious effort. It's impossible to live one's whole life in a bigoted society and not absorb some of its bigoted beliefs. That's why we all have to be vigilant and avoid making statements like, "I'm not sexist" or "I'm not racist." We all are, whether we like it or not, and the important thing is to consciously fight those tendencies. We won't be able to fight them if we don't even recognize them because we assume we don't have them.

The most disturbing thing I have seen is people of color who are openly racist against other people of color. For example, just last week, I heard a Hispanic woman make an offensive comment about Black people. Too many people fail to understand that bigotry is bigotry, period. You can't fight anti-Hispanic racism without also fighting anti-Black racism. You also can't fight racism without also fighting sexism. When we all understand that, we will be much better positioned to fight all these forms of bigotry.

most of us are to smart to buy that foolishness.

You should know that by now. African Americans have a much higher percentage of voting for Democrats than any other ethnic group, constantly in the 90% range. No other ethnic group is even in the 80% range.

We know not to buy repug talking points, or accusatory DU posts, excepting of course the Uncle Toms and Uncle Tomases.

If other groups are "too smart to buy that foolishness", then women might as well be discriminated against, since we're just stupid.

which is much higher than any other ethnic group.

And I should add, AA women vote Dem even higher, in the mid-90% range.

Most ardent Dem supporters know that African-American women are a huge part of the loyal Dem base.

There is nothing in my post that is anti-woman and I don't get why you are hinting that there is.

8. Yep. I think it's hard for some to grasp the concept of internalized racism/misogyny

Because you have to see members of other groups as individuals in order to do so. This makes them misinterpret the reasons for supporting equality. They view it as team sport, so it's confusing for them to see a POC criticizing another POC, or a woman criticizing a woman. White men are allowed to be individuals with their own distinct points of view unique to them because they're just people.

Of course, sometimes they know full well and are simply being obtuse.

the whole deal about needing to be attractive to men. It is like their self esteem is all tied up in being popular with men. Thet dress to please men. They like to spend most of their time with men.

I used to run into this a lot in business. Women who bought into the whole male dominance trip that you find in lots of businesses. Women who were very ugly and competitive with other women.

Happens all the time.
