(22,048 posts)The direction the GOP has led their followers is down a road of willful ignorance. These people who support Trump and the GOP's policies are incapable of recognizing that their own choices have had negative consequences for them personally. Their hatred, fear, bigotry and stupidity have blinded them.
They will not learn. Instead, they'll find a scapegoat such as they have in the past: Democrats, minorities, immigrants, etc.

(22,048 posts)These jackasses deserve anything that happens to them because of their foolish support of the party that has used and abused them.
My point was simply that they will never understand their responsibility for their future plight.
I certainly won't give them even a thought let alone something as valuable as a fuck!

(6,385 posts)...they will not learn because no matter what happens to them as a results of these policies, they will still be (in their minds) card carrying members of the white tribe.
Chris Rock captures it well, albeit in a NSFW clip with more than a few expletives. (don't listen loud with the kiddos around...lol)
"...there ain't a white guy in this audience that would trade places with me...and I'm RICH".
"...there's a one legged broke white busboy down stairs who won't trade with me. He's saying 'nah - I think I ride this white thing out and see how it works'".
That's the kind of tribalism that allows Trump's supporters to take all the pain in the world, as long as their tribe to stay on top.

(26,648 posts)Chris Rock is and he should be because he makes us laugh at the truth and hypocrisy. Seeing him live is on my bucket list.
This is a cult. Ronnie their God and hatred of everything liberal their mantra. Don't expect them to change their thinking at all for whatever reason. Thirty years of cult propaganda has so changed their brains that it's impossible to even have a discussion with them.

(9,080 posts)They way I see Trump voters or people who vote for Republicans - other than those that keep hoping the old way- more moderate Republicans will once again be part of the process instead of part of the problem - is because they have
They way I see Trump voters is that there are 3 camps; the first camp includes... corporate, crooked or moneyed republican voters that have something to gain, mostly money, that enriches themselves; like not having to pay workers decent wages, not covering work-place injuries, etc or tax-evasive gains (religious orgs, etc).
The second camp are the moderate Republicans. I'm talking of those that are seen as Liberals today but were standard bearing Republicans in the 70's and 80's who dream of being part of the process instead of part of the problem. They are woefully absent and woefully voiceless.
And the third camp are the ones who vote against their own interests. This is the block of Republicans I do have some sympathy for. Many of them are made up of the second camp as well as the rest who do not fall into either (the regular Repulican voter). They have been soaked in bullshit for so long by the first camp that they have become gullible, complacent or even vengeful.
Their cynicism is so thick they can't even begin to remember what democracy and governing are supposed to look like. They have forgotten that they elect their leaders over and over with disastrous results for the democratic processes and for the nation.
Their cynicism has gotten so bad that they have stopped imagining what would be better for them and everyone else. That is major suppression of ones own party BY ones own party. I think this is where Democrats, Independents along with Old School Moderate Republicans can make inroads. They have to snap these Republicans out of that deep dark cynicism and inspire them to imagine better things for themselves, their families, their descendents and their fellow Americans once again.
The moderate Republicans have to find a collective voice and take over the party if they want to stop this madness and get their supporters to re-imagine better things for their party and for themselves.

(10,252 posts)But if TrumpDon'tCare passes, I hope it hits them very very very hard. Not only will GrandMa & GrandPa suffer, but also their kids, and they themselves. Already working 2 jobs, they have the prospect of coming home to clean the bottoms of bedridden Granny, change the sheets, feed her, dispense meds, attend to bed sores, and listen to her complaints and suffering. No time to help little Johnny and Suzy with their homework. Kids run wild and inducted into gangs, because of no parental supervision and attention. No week-end family outings to the park, the scout troop, church. Marriage gone sour because of fatigue and hopelessness. Rampant opiode additions.
One fine mess that Dr. Phil can't fix.

(67,112 posts)with them. Some will feel immune, but one day the sh** might hit the fan for them. Lives can be changed in the flick of a second. Riches can vanish, health can vanish, families and friends can go, then one might be sitting there one day, no money, no support group watching death and misery descend on them.

(47,953 posts)They have been well and truly brainwashed and will go to their graves blaming 'the other' for all their problems. And blaming Democrats as well.
There are still folks down here in the South who blame "the North' for all their problems, 150 years later.
