They believe that it is not their role to look after the welfare of others. They believe that is true, regardless of the area of concern, whether it be healthcare, employment, economic opportunity, housing or anything else. Such things are not their problem, they appear to believe. That is at the core of the Calvinistic philosophy of the Republican Party.
As far as Republicans are concerned, those who cannot "pull themselves up by their own bootstraps" deserve nothing. The Republican Party is the Party of Cain, if you look at things in terms of the Bible, which I don't. It's a useful way to look at things, though, given the claim by a majority of Republicans that they are led by Judeo-Christian principles.
Here's what I think: Following the lead of the deity of Genesis, we should cast Republicans out for metaphorically slaying their brothers through neglect and unconcern. That Party represents what is the most ugly of human nature. It represents the "me first" attitudes that cause so much misery in the world.
Cast them out! Send them packing! Exile them to the Land of Nod, as the deity supposedly did to Cain. Recognize them for the uncaring, selfish, uncharitable people they are and reject that philosophy. We can and should do better. We should be the most caring and supportive nation on the planet, not one of the least charitable nations.
That's my opinion on this Sunday Morning.

(6,084 posts)OK, not their dirtbag leaders, but I always thought the men and women in the street were sincere in their beliefs, even if they hadn't thought through all the consequences.
But then came Trump. They embraced someone who is not only loathsome by my standards, but even more so by their own. They eagerly wallowed in a cesspool with Turdus Maximus because he promised to stick it to the people they hate.
I'm done with them.
