Only Protestants believe in salvation in faith alone. Catholics believe in faith demonstrated through works. So we must judge him by his works, which sums up the Republican position very well...
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day,
and one of you says to them, Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?
So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Indeed someone may say, You have faith and I have works. Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.
Global warming you say? A hoax says Ryan. What does Catholicism say about this?
It is a mortal sin against the Holy Spirit to have deliberate resistance to a known truth.
The Vatican is full of scientist and the Pope has spoken to this issue. Everyone knows it's real, but it hurts big oil and coal so Paul plays stupid and denies.
Finally, what about his glee at opressing the poor via his Randian philosophy?
There are particular mortal sins that are so evil that they are said to be sins that cry to heaven for vengeance, including oppression of the poor and defrauding workers of their just wages.
Paul Ryan is a shitty Catholic and if you adhere to the religion, must conclude his soul is in grave danger of hell.

(6,843 posts)It's quite another to perpetuate laws that steal from the poor and give it to the rich.
This transcends authoritarian behavior exuded by many of the modern day Pharisees.

"Steal from the poor and give it to the rich" is an authoritarian trait, they have very concrete opinions about who "deserves" to be poor, just as the Prosperity Theology Protestant Christians do.
They are the chosen ones, as demonstrated by their wealth an political power or their aspirations of such, no matter how unlikely that may be.

(6,017 posts)Those are Cannon or Church Law, as well as what is preached from the pulpit.
None of the GOP in Congress or the White House can be said to act in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. They use religion to manipulate their base & to scare them into voting GOP. Are they Christian? Sure. There are tens of thousands of different Christian sects, often with differing or even mutually opposed beliefs. Do their actions match the words of Jesus or actively oppose the same, while they give lip service?
Christian is as Christian does, as they say.

(70,120 posts)since the catholic church runs a lot of hospitals, i cant imagine he is in very good standing right now.
and since, if this comes to pass, the catholic hospitals will have to do a whole lot more charity care, i bet they are really, really unhappy w him.
i assume that, like cook county hospital here, the aca has been a real windfall to the catholic systems. for the first time in decades, cook county has more insured patients than uninsured.
they have invested heavily in preventive and primary care.
i'm thinkin seeing hospitals in the black makes them want the aca to stick.
prepare for the backlash lil paulie.
