I was at a dinner last night and everything was going good until one of my neighbors brought up that he was a San Francisco fan. This ignited a huge anti-Kaepernick sentiment between other people who were at the party. OK so what they don't get is that Kaepernick has as much of a right to free speech as they do. The difference is - he's *EXERCISING* his right to free speech. And if you're mad at him for what he did as opposed to actually researching what he did and why he did it, you're part of the problem. And talk about holding a grudge - Kaepernick doesn't even play football anymore! Let it go!

(7,300 posts)He's an African American and they're GOPee-ers so...you know...they're racists mainly.

(35,077 posts)Kaepernick is making the "dream" become lucid, whether Republicans like it or not.

(82,849 posts)When the Black Lives Matter protests were inconveniencing some people ("Okay, we get it, you're upset about the legalized murder of your friends and family; but do you have to wave that sign?" , a lot of Republicans wondered why protests couldn't be more . . . you know, quiet and stuff. Kaepernick hit on the simple tactic of taking a knee during the pointless repetition of the national anthem before sporting events. Well, that wasn't quite what conservatives had in mind, but there wasn't much they could do about it, so they were pissed that they'd been outsmarted.

(2,810 posts)He has right to free speech. Everyone else has the right to react to how he exercises that speech. Why is that hard to understand?
Personally I don't like him because he doesn't even bother to vote. People like him are why Republicans win elections.

(89,251 posts)I don't like him for not voting also.
But the right wing rage against him is because he is black .

(100,080 posts)I think the biggest difference is that we don't hold a grudge the way the GOP does. Tim Tebow, under the first amendment, absolutely has every right to say what he said? Do I agree with what he said? No. Am I going to stop him from saying what he says? No.
The big difference between us and the Fox News bots - is that they don't just want to stop Kaepernick, they want to silence him and anything having to do with San Francisco for the rest of time because they don't praise America and the baby Jesus 100% of the time.

(2,857 posts)Pretty simple to me. He quit playing that little game where you pretend you don't know what's up, but he kept getting paid. Not acceptable to those that pull the strings to not jump up when told. They are thrilled he has been put in his place from what I've been told.

(653 posts)Combine that with a black person doing it, compounded by WHY he was doing it?
Oh yeah...a recipe for receiving their rage and hatred.

(36,444 posts)I despised him BEFORE he discovered his political activism. He was a loser headcase years before he splashed in the headlines with that dropping the knee stuff, and he remains unsigned because EVERY front office in the NLF team knows he's a headcase; damaged goods.

Maybe Kaepernick will be pulled over and taken OUT by a rogue policeman.
It's not like the cop would get in trouble even if he fatally shot him, because the rogue officer was scared to death of the black part of Kaepernick, and we know that it's "open season" on at least HALF of Kaepernick.
In his own defense, the cop could say "Part of Mr. Kaepernick scared me sooooo much that I had to take out my service revolver and empty it into that angry, hostile part of him."
Jury verdict: Police officer found "not guilty" of justiafiable homicide because the officer feared for his life.

The black male of Kaepernick doesn't stand a chance with most of these cops

(25,183 posts)Please ignore the NY avatar, I am a Northwesterner through and through.
I recall a Seattle City Council member, Kshama Sawant recommending that the Seahawks hire Kaepernick as a backup quarterback:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/socialist-city-council-member-in-seattle-urges-seahawks-to-sign-colin-kaepernick/
I have two objections to this. First, look at his team's record last year, 2-14. You have to lay some of the blame for that performance on the quarterback. To her credit, Sawant admits, she doesn't know much about football, and it apparently extends to not knowing the 2016 record of one of the Seahawks' greatest rivals.
Second, Kaepernick took money to do a commercial for Beats headphones, where he supposedly tests the noise-cancelling feature by walking obliviously through a crowd of fans of a team that Kaepernick and presumably, his 49ers were visiting.
Watch this video of the ad:
and tell me if you think that the ad DOESN'T depict Seahawk fans acting like assholes, which they would never do. The colors, the wigs and makeup that the fans at Seahawk games use, it's all there. There's even a street lamp in the background at about the 28 second mark that sort of resembles the Space Needle for a second or two.
That's why Seattle fans don't want Kaepernick, every other team's fans need to come up with their own explanations.
