SCOTUS summarily reverses an Arkansas decision denying same sex parents the right to have both...

of their names on their child's birth certificate. (In the 'other news, water is wet' category, Gorsuch, Thomas and Alito dissent. ).

From SCOTUSblog live feed from the Court (http://www.scotusblog.com/2017/06/live-blog-orders-opinions-10/):

-----------

The justices also summarily reversed -- that is, overturned without briefing and argument on the merits -- in Pavan v. Smith. That was a challenge to an Arkansas law that requires a married mother's male spouse to be on the birth certificate, even if he is not the biological father. But the same is not true for married same-sex couples. In an unsigned opinion, the court reversed the Arkansas Supreme Court's decision upholding the law.

Citing the court's decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court explained that the decision "denied married same-sex couples access to the constellation of benefits that the State has linked to marriage."

....Justice Gorsuch dissents from the summary reversal in Pavan v. Smith, joined by Thomas and Alito.

(I couldn't resist. )

This is great news concerning the issue, but troubling as to exactly where Gorsuch decided to stake his flag on the right wing continuum.

I hope he'll forever be tainted by his illegitimate nomination. I hope, in the backs of the minds of the other eight justices, there is just a smidgen of "This guy shouldn't be here." Also, if they take the Con down but leave McConnell in place, we're still fucked. The Con is a dangerous fool, but McConnell is evil & powerful & capable.

Roberts is still a Conservative, make no mistake about that. But he's also reasonable and he knows that this court is about to go way to the Right, it would not surprise me if Robert's starting voting with the Liberal block more often.

All he has to do is exhibit some patriotism, fairness and non-partisanship. All those things Bush assured us he has.
