Freedom is relative. The truth about freedom that got Trump elected...

I've just been mulling over a few thoughts about the concept of "freedom". None of what I'm saying is new or unique, just some of my ramblings.

Freedom is relative. There is no such thing as freedom, capital F with a side of freedom fries. Who's freedom? We fail to ask this question almost ALL the time. Almost everyone would agree that a rapist and murderer doesn't deserve freedom. Because to him freedom means raping and murdering whomever he pleases. So it seems that when it comes to the very most extreme of examples most of us agree that there are limits on freedom. The thing is that what seem like limits on freedom for one group, actually represent freedom for another. The fact that you can't murder someone at will is actually a freedom granted for most of us. By and large I feel free walking on the streets at night because of this.

It's ironic that the GOP would LOVE to argue that the military buys Americans the freedoms that they love. To walk the streets in peace. And how condescendingly they tell other countries the same. The military, funded by tax payers. And yet in the next breath they will argue that the same argument doesn't apply to medical care when it absolutely does. When it comes to medical care a right wing person would argue that someone deserves to get sick because they didn't live the productive healthy life style that would have staved off illness and made them enough money to pay for the medical insurance they needed. So that's self induced. But one can take that argument anywhere.

America has this great love affair with the false and dangerous narrative that they are the only shinning beacon of "freedom" on the planet. Those who are poor and ignorant are easily swayed by the likes of 24/7 fox news, et al, coverage into believing in this narrative. And once you believe in it you are ripe for manipulation.

Bush JR is famous for saying of the terrorists that "they hate our freedom". A nonsense sentence. As I said above, who's freedom?

Cause no country in the world is as free for billionaires as China and Dubai. Most fox news watchers would probably say those are not free countries. Meanwhile most of the same fox new watchers are oblivious to the fact that the same freedoms afforded to the billionaires in those countries are afforded to their own poorer counterparts in other countries they would view as less free.

Horrible communist Sweden, Denmark etc, where a billionaire isn't as free.

When my brother returned from a visit to Norway he couldn't wait to tell me - "They are happy. They are not like the US."

Many Americans live with a lot of stress and fear. I don't call that freedom.
