British Columbia has a new Premier! Right wing defeated!

Last edited Sat Jul 1, 2017, 01:15 AM - Edit history (3)

Please welcome our new Premier-Designate John Horgan of the New Democratic Party!!!

Made possible by an alliance with the BC Green Party and its Leader Professor Andrew Weaver: one of the most distinguished, and leading world experts in Climate Change!

I hope you can join all so many of us in BC, in finally ousting 16 years of corrupt right-wing power.

Goodbye pipe line!!!!!!

There much more to this story. But I'll spare you the details, at present.

One very important point:

The defeated Liberal Party of BC has ZERO affiliation with Justin Trudeau's Federal Liberal Party. Trudeau's party is the REAL Liberal Party!

The old non-affiliated BC "Liberal Party" was taken over by the old right-wing Social Credit Party about 25 years ago. This happened, when the NDP gained power in the early '90s, and the then marginal (non-affiliated) Provincial Liberal Party made temporarily large gains in that election, due to a charismatic and massively flawed party leader. The then defeated Social Credit Party swamped the old Liberal Party, and took them over. In other words, oddly, the BC Liberals were and are now the right wing party!

However, the BC New Democratic Party is the same party/organisation as the Federal NDP.

Whew!

(FYI: "Premier-Designate is the formal Provincial term for Premier-Elect)

I moved from Vancouver when Christy Clark first became Premier. So happy she and BC Liberals are not in power!

and apply it across the province will be used by the NDP. The price of single family homes that mostly sit empty is out of control.

... both Horgan and Weaver have a very thorough alliance agreement. I hope that the best is taken from both parties. We'll see more details within the coming days, perhaps hours

should be a place to live only for the wealthy and foreign investors to hide cash while the rest of us and our families are shoved into tiny apartments has got to end.

I wish them luck with the media too that only likes to dredge up stories about when BC was a "have not" province and tries to pin it on the NDP.

... and this inconvenient fact seems to escape the grasp of so many "reasonable" people. Especially the press.

For example, the Right has held power for the last 16 years in BC. So pretty much ALL of the issues BC is facing are directly attributable to them.

Hard to believe I know

For those DU members less familiar with BC... we are a very wealthy province, in a wealthy country. There is zero excuse for much or any of the issues we face.

Also, BC is still a very good place, regardless of some of the politics. Even SOME of the Right Wing policies are comparatively mild, COMPARED TO many of the issues Americans are dealing with at present.

BUT, there are some very dangerous and reactionary policies that underlie much of the Right. Especially in regard to sustainable resource development, anti-union/labour policies, exporting our raw lumber to Asia, and then re-importing the procesed lumber back into BC, at the cost of many thousands of union jobs. Toadying to corrupt developers, resulting in massive losses of affordable housing in large urban areas, especially Vancouver. The list goes on... sigh.

There were many Woodfibre mills that supported small towns. Good paying jobs. Stupid to ship out lumber for processing and then buy it back.

Good riddance Christy Clark! To you and your arrogant party!

Ms. Clark, you expected the Lt. Governor to call another election. Really? Really, Ms. Clark? What the hell were you thinking? Did you expect the Lt. Governor to ignore the new government-in-waiting because the Lt. Gov. shared your partisan doubts? Really? For what reason would the Lt. Gov (under the Canadian constitution) have to do this?

The TRUE colours of the right-wing come blazing though. Arrogant, and eager to serve and put their corporate masters/cohorts interests and agendas AGAINST the will of the people.

And if this new NDP/Green alliance fails, THEN a new election will be called. But ONLY then!

And to the local media: I condemn you. Sowing the seeds of doubt, with your "oh so concerned" editorials.

Below is a link to one of those papers. Although this news item, was buried 4th on their fucking online-edition, late yesterday night. You miserable rag!!!

Till then, I'm expecting a freak show.

Most elected BC politicians at the provincial and municipal level should be in prison as far as I can tell.
