Winter Haven Man Arrested with a Gun in Wal-Mart

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - A Winter Haven man has been arrested after allegedly walking into a Wal-Mart with a pistol in his pocket and demanding to buy ammunition.

According to a Winter Haven Police report, on July 3, Rodney Gene Lewis, 24, was seen drinking a beer outside of the Wal-Mart on Cypress Gardens Blvd in Winter Haven before entering the store. He then went directly to the sporting goods department in the back of the store where he approached an employee at a counter.

Lewis then placed his revolver on the counter, saying he needed ammo.

The Wal-Mart associated informed Lewis that he would not be sold ammunition for a weapon that is present in the store.

We got them here by the busload. It is always curious that people who come here actually worry about the alligators. Leave them alone and gators are not the problem, they don't get drunk and you can usually predict their actions.

Lewis began to argue with the associate and placed the revolver back inside of his pocket walking through the store. When deputies arrived, Lewis became more irate screaming that it was his First Amendment right to carry his firearm.

Along with not knowing which right was his right to bear arms, Lewis did not have a concealed weapons permit.

Once he was outside of the store, Lewis continued to refuse officers commands to calm down and stop yelling. He continually attempted to put his hand back in his pocket. Ultimately, he complied and was arrested.

Once he was taken into custody, he threatened the arresting officer with bodily harm upon his release from jail.

Genius.
