Nepotism
Cronyism
No respect for free press
Limiting access for free press
Desire to cozy up to rogue leaders
Use of office for self-enrichment
Use of office for personal glorification
Creating an alternate narrative of facts
Belief that one's position makes himself above the law
Purging dissenters/whistleblowers from public positions
Desire to obstruct investigations that could shed negative light on him
Subtle attempts to restrict voting rights
Creating an "us versus them" mentality amongst supporters

The flags of authoritarianism/autocracy are so red you can waive them at a bull.
The gasoline has been poured. God help us if they light a match.

(49,011 posts)tRump has been blocked in numerous ways.
Facts about Republican Trump have come to light that he would rather you not know.
He and his gang have had to hire personal lawyers because of what has happened.
Mueller has a great team investigating.
Impeachment gets closer by the day as Republican tRump gets more toxic to the GOP party brand and their 2018 & 2020 electoral chances.
There is even a serious effort to declare Republican Trump incompetent by way of the 25th Amendment.
Resist, Persist, Triumph.

(6,139 posts)if we can get the senate back in 2018. If people don't show up to vote again then our country desrves all of it.
2018 is the shit or get off the pot moment for this country.
It could not possibly be more clear where we are and where we are heading.
People either are OK with it or will punish republicans in a BIG way.
Sadly, I am not seeing the second occuring.

(4,033 posts)just like the 2016 ones were. So long as PINO's approval ratings stay around 35% or higher, between gerrymandering, 6 hour long lines in Dem strongholds compared to 10 minute lines in GOP areas, voter suppression of Dems and liberals, they will make up the needed 16%. And don't forget the real 'fake news' like FOX and Breitbart will be in full throat as well to whip up the base and those on the fence.

(14,566 posts)Whatever hacking may or may not have, or could ircwould happen, the choices are stone cold clear, and there is no excuse for it to be remotely close to steal.
Side note, I work a poll that went overwhelmingly for 45, votes were tallied as everyone voted.

(4,033 posts)It is an opinion. I phone banked, gave rides to voters, walked blocks, and voted on election day - even though I knew there was no chance KY was going blue. And, the good lord willing, I will do it again in 2018.
But I also see the GOP gleefully take money from foreign interests and on the QT passing bills to destroy this country and a President who sets up a Voter Suppression Commission to make damn sure that the Repugs get to keep their majority. And his base is loving it. According to 538 his approval rating is STILL around 40%
So don't you dare say I am somehow 'copping out' just because I have a somewhat pessimistic view as to whether we will be able to save our country from becoming an Oligarchy that cares only for the rich.

(14,566 posts)Because it is placing the blame where it doesn't belong.
We are where we are at because of "us" not some nefarious forces "stealing" elections.
This country is making a conscious decision.

(3,847 posts)thew articles of Impeachment this whole circle jerk of investigations are a waste of time. Unless the truth comes out before 2018 elections, we still screwed.

(31,261 posts)Everyday the republican brand becomes more toxic. That our recent special election candidates lost by single digests in double digits red districts says that a lot of moderate republicans are having second thoughts. When you see former conservative republicans become cheerleaders for Democrats, as some have, that says things are afoot, leaning in our direction.
All I see is the slippage occurring at a faster pace ...

(2,194 posts)But considering what we are dealing with, I'm not so sure the literal part should be discarded.
A lot of good people tried to talk the German Nazis out of what they were doing too.
I just hope we don't get to the point where there is no choice and then realize that we have no plan.

(51,611 posts)as well as the replies. All 3 generations of heavy duty dems (thank god) brainstormed. Something truly horrible has to happen but we couldn't think of exactly what it would be since we don't think the same way as his base. Actually they don't think and that is a big problem.

(50,279 posts)for a dictatorship. Once the GOP has a permanent majority, they get to choose the POTUS over and over and over again. We might have presidential term limits for the time being, but we don't have political party/wingnut term limits.
