Since Pence will become the president and Ryan the VP (I think he does but could be wrong) and both of them, as well as many others, are probably also guilty of collusion, obstruction of justice, or complicity what happens to all of the investigations? 45 could die for health reasons, get killed who knows how and why he wouldn't be able to complete his term....then what happens constitutionally and legally?

(61,902 posts)Combine Gerald Ford's pardon of Nixon with Poppy Bush's pardon of Iran-Contra wrongdoers.
Pence may justify it as healing the nation.

(17,984 posts)When Mueller shows, beyond doubt, that tRump/Russia threw the election, that should invalidate any repuke who sits in the Oval Office. Honestly, they need to set things right by placing HRC in the WH, but that won't happen. However, the very minimum that needs to occur is for the repuke prezident to be completely powerless to pardon tRump.

(21,717 posts)That is how we got Ford. Ford was a Congressman. So no, Ryan is not the new VP, Pence would nominate somebody. It could be Ryan, but it wouldn't necessarily be Ryan.

(115,738 posts)unless Pence specifically appoints him. According the the 25th Amendment a president would have to appoint a VP if there wasn't one (as when Agnew resigned). Pence would probably appoint someone even worse. The investigations would go on because they are much broader than whether Trump obstructed justice; they are intended to determine how the Russian hack occurred and who was involved. They will also look into financial crimes, which Trump could be prosecuted for if Pence doesn't pardon him first - but Gerald Ford learned the hard way that pardoning a criminal president can be a career-killer.

If *45 were to no longer be available to serve out his term, Pence would get to appoint a VP...
Even if Pence moved to pardon people....
that would not have any adverse effect on charges brought forth by NYAG Schniedermann...
As it stands, the Mueller investigation would continue, despite any pardons issued, simply due to the sheer number of co-conspirators and accomplices after the fact, etc which are involved.
Think of it, literally and figuratively, as a giant WASP hive.....
No one noticed that it was up in the corner of the capitol until one WASP was cocky enough to sting someone.
No matter what happens to the cocky WASP...
the whole hive must be removed & destroyed in order to keep people safe.
No matter how comprehensive the method of removal is, some WASPS will undoubtedly escape and will search for another location to rebuild their hive. Eventually, they too will be discovered and addressed in their new hive.
As for the majority of the WASPs, they will be removed from their cozy little DC hive and relocated to a secure WASP keeping facility.
