Trump praising Poland because they bought US missles and therefore are members in good standing in NATO. So to considered a good member in his eyes is to buy military stuff from us.

So he has a point.
They also have a populist right-wing government that doesn't really like the EU (unless we send money, of course), so Trump probably feels right at home. At least they have a healthy dose of "Russiaphobia", though maybe it's even a little bit too much.
