Evelyn Beatriz Hernandez Cruz, 19, from a small rural community in Cuscatlán, eastern El Salvador, was convicted on the grounds that failing to seek antenatal care amounted to murder.

Hernandez, a high school student, gave birth into the toilet in April 2016 after falling ill with acute back and stomach pain.

Hernandez, who at the time was 18, was in her third trimester, but hadn’t realised that she was pregnant. She had been repeatedly raped by a gang member over several months as part of a forced sexual relationship.

First, she suffers multiple rapes!

Then she delivers a dead infant.............and now she's going to prison?

I cannot fathom such cruelty by the state.

There is no justice there.

As a survivor of a kidnap and assault I am angry/sad/frustrated for this girl.

rarely have good people tending them. This decision is just absurd and a complete travesty yet someone with a straight face thought it up and made it happen. The devil's minions hard at work.

You'll be in tears within minutes, and you will never, ever think a bad thought about immigrants again (if you did before). Some areas are apparently like a Mad Max movie.

if i were president i'd have a real hard time not sending in a navy seal team to rescue this woman and bring her here to live out her life in peace. of course with the current state if this country she would be better off if the Canadians rescued her

Where they force you to have your rapist's baby, take away your healthcare and all funding to help care for the child, and then jail you when it's stillborn. Pay attention, folks, because this is where we're headed.

Oh, by the way, this is the same group of people who railed against Sharia Law about a month ago and then shamed a female reporter for having the unmitigated gall to wear a sleeveless dress. It's inconceivable how a Party can hate women this much, yet still totally fear Sharia Law. Sounds like Sharia Law would be a perfect fit for Republicans.
