...make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can never tell, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all
How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you're all alone
But it's time you started living
It's time you let someone else do some giving
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can never tell, why don't you take it
You might just make it after all
You might just make it after all

(65,076 posts)She thinks she's an absolute knockout! Besides, she has no shame, so we can't shame her in any way.

(4,483 posts)comes from her appearance, which is mostly beyond her control, and making fun of her looks, again it seems to me, would be hurtful to those of us who are ugly. Do you really want to wound the feelings of your fellow DUers who suffer from being ugly? Some of us are ugly on the outside but beautiful on the inside. She isn't; she's hideous on the inside.
I am concerned about triggering, but if this is not a concern for the majority of us, then I won't mention it again.

(65,076 posts)I think most people know that she got her current gig because she was a leggy blond who was willing to flirt with the camera. Her background does not support she really has the credentials to be a spokesperson for the POTUS. She thinks she's a living doll, and all the supporters of the resident think so too. Pretty hard to ugly shame someone in those circumstances.
I simply do not believe you've interpreted this correctly. You're seeing "shaming" where none exists beyond shaming her for her lack of integrity.
cyclonefence
(4,483 posts)why "body shaming" is something people will talk seriously about, but "ugly shaming," which surely must also cause pain, is not. I personally do not think it's wrong to make fun of our enemies' looks (because I'm mean-spirited), and I guess I'm asking someone to draw a line for me which we should not cross.
I think it's disingenuous to assert that the shaming of KAC does not exist beyond her lack of integrity, if only because her photograph or caricature accompanies almost every mention of her here at DU.
ProfessorGAC
(65,076 posts)And she sure doesn't think it. So, i'm trying to understand how you're interpreting any of this as ugly shaming. If she was actually self-conscious about her appearance and didn't feel attractive, you'd be right. But, clearly she presents herself as a living doll and her fans agree.
The ugly is on the inside with her. And that deserves to be shamed.
cyclonefence
(4,483 posts)But I'm not sure how we can know that she thinks she's a living doll, and I don't know that her fans think she is, either--but I'll take your word on that.
The pictures of her that I see here show a very ugly woman, haggard and unkempt, and I get the feeling from the tone of posts accompanying those pictures that the poster feels she is physically unattractive and assumes we all agree with that. Of course, I could be totally off-base with this perception.
I further assume that as liberals, we do not believe that a person's appearance is relevant to any discussion of their actions or opinions, and we do not make fun of people for things they cannot change.
I accept this, but as a mean-spirited human, I do pay attention to her looks and want to believe that she thinks she is much better-looking than she is.
(Sorry to be so long-winded, but I sincerely appreciate your helping me with this.)
If talking about how fat someone is, someone we don't approve of politically, spiritually or intellectually, causes pain to other, innocent people who happen to be fat, why doesn't talking about how ugly someone is cause pain to innocent people who are ugly? And where is the line? What physical characteristics, if any, are fair game for mockery?
I realize that no one says "KAC is ugly," but again I think the context in which her unflattering photos are posted implies that attitude. And if I'm wrong, if no one here believes she is ugly and would never imply that in a post, then I'm wrong, and I'll back off.
In either case, thanks for engaging with me on this.

(65,076 posts)The "fat" thing i get. Nobody can deny that a person being fat is visually obvious. I know Chris Christie is fat, but i don't loathe him for that. I loathe him because he's a disgusting piece of work. I think the "ugly" and "fat" issues are apples and oranges. There's no parallel for me.
As to the photos, if these are gleaned from public files, it's not like someone is looking to make her look "more ugly" so they can make fun of ugly. In fact, there have been posts right here describing how much more worn out she looks. The lying and stress is likely taking a toll. Lack of sleep, even for someone with no scruples, will catch up on a person.
Last Point: Watch her "perform". The little hair flip and the batting eyes at the camera when she says something she thinks to be clever or a "gotcha". She's flirting with the camera and she does know that her fans and the fans of her boss, the resident, make comments on social media about how hot she is. You think this crowd doesn't see those social media posts? They're addicted to social media.
If someone actually says, "Kellyanne Conway shouldn't have that job because she's ugly", then i'd agree with you. But i sense from the tone of nearly every post i read about her on DU is that people find her unappealing as a public servant because she's a manipulative, conscienceless liar who has sold her integrity down the river. She is defending the indefensible and she does it in a faux superior fashion that people resent. If there's anything ugly about her, it's that she's a horrible person and the proof is her doing her job.
cyclonefence
(4,483 posts)I know she's a horrible person, and your point about her looks reflecting the stress and strain of her job is a good one. And you're right about her preening on-camera behavior; someone unhappy with her looks would probably not act that way.
Maybe she just isn't photogenic? Maybe I'm the creep for suggesting she's physically ugly? Maybe I'm totally over-thinking this?
I kind of do loathe Chris Christie (and btw if your last name is Christie, would you really name your baby Christopher?) for his fat, mostly because I know he had lap-band surgery to help him lose weight, and it didn't work for long, meaning he managed to over-eat anyway, ruining the effect of the surgery.
Okay. Thanks for your help. You've given me a new way to think about KAC, and I'll try to be less judgmental about her looks myself.

(65,408 posts)thinks commenting on how fat Trump and Christie are is OK, and that commenting on KAC's looks is also OK.
He/she just didn't bother with the sarcasm tag.

(20,998 posts)...I was thinking it was going to be a gorgeous picture of either Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton....
...BUT NO, NOT A PICTURE of a well-poised woman whose inner beauty, compassion and grace shine through to light up a room and touch everyone she meets...
...NO, not that. Instead, we have the Queen of Lies, The Duchess of Deception, whose inner malfeasance oozes to the surface, her verbal bullying and demeaning attitude sullies everyone with whom she comes in contact.
I despised this person during the Clinton years. I despise this person even more now. Kellyann Conjob* is living proof that evil can take a human form.

Kellyanne is none of that. I'd say she's ugly, too, but I'll probably get alerted, so I won't say that.
