(70,135 posts)something i would be a lot less upset about if we actually had good treatments for addiction. but we never invested in that because "we" thought it was just a brown people problem.
with the rural white folk it is an addiction problem whereas with brown folk it is a criminal issue

(13,390 posts)Opioid addiction can be maintained without being as damaging as it is currently. I think they should allow addicts to have access via pain clinics. They don't have to deal with criminals and doses can be monitored and provided safely. It seems logical to me that removing the most dangerous and destructive elements would allow people to live productive and comfortable lives with an opioid addiction.
Portugal has had a lot of success with decriminalization.

(70,135 posts)what happens when they want more and more? does the pain clinic give it to them?
if we hadnt wasted billions on a failed war on drugs, we would have good treatments.

(13,390 posts)Maintaining. Remove the demand for abstinence and provide doses to keep them from suffering through withdrawal. It could help people live as healthy and productive lives as possible with a medical addiction rather than demonizing them.

(7,809 posts)It reminds me of how 30,000 losing their jobs in coal mining is horrible and has to be fixed, but over 200,000 retail employees losing their jobs at a time isn't even noticed. Millions of lost jobs in manufacturing is just good business.
Yeah, I don't get it, either.
