Female lawmakers 'bare arms' in sleeveless attire to support new House dress code

A number of female House Democrats wore sleeveless clothing on Friday, tweeting in support of "Sleeveless Friday." The action was part of the push to modernize the House dress code.

"Thank you to all my colleagues who joined me for #SleevelessFriday -- because women have the right to bare arms!" tweeted Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.)

Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) said, "It's 2017, and women vote, hold office, + choose their own style. Time to update the House rules to reflect the times!"

Pingree's comments were aimed at Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who said he would work with the sergeant-at-arms to modernize the dress code that includes requiring men to wear a suit and tie in both the Speaker's lobby and House chamber.

Why is professional dress for women so much more casual than professional dress for men? Men wear suits with ties. Some of the women in the photo look like they are going to a baby shower or a BBQ, not to conduct The People's business in the House and Senate. What's wrong with covered shoulders, and dresses or pant suits that are professional. HRC always looked professional! IMO, if this dress code is allowed for the women, then the men should be able to dress in khaki's & short sleeved shirts & or cords & flannel shirts.

A woman can look professional in a sleeveless dress, but if you allow bare shoulders, you will get some dresses that are not work appropriate.
Simple solution ,let women in sleeveless dresses wear a light jacket or shrug.

Just watch. You'll see most of the Democratic women continue to dress professionally in suits while the Republicans wear dresses.

Democrats are there for the people's business and want to be taken seriously. Republicans don't do much for the people so they need to pretend they are fighting for women's rights with the dress code.

Men wear suits and ties, that's just how it is no matter how hot it is. We might see some of the men wear seersucker or something cooling but never argue it as a matter of men's rights.

My point was that Republican women are trying to piggyback on the trend of women's empowerment without actually doing anything that empowers women.

They are so busy trying to conform that they forget that this is a free country.

There is nothing wrong with women's fashion. There is a lot wrong with modern mainstream men's fashion. It's like they are stuck back in the 1950s, when women had to wear hats and pearls and bras and hose.

Come on, guys! Burn those ties!

the most successful female tech executive, Judy Faulkner, doesn't allow ties in her office because they "restrict blood flow to the brain".

But those bows on her sleeves tell us everything we need to know about her qualifications and how seriously she's taking this role.

It's so sad seeing people like this represent the United States
