Google Launches "Legalize Love" Campaign to Push for LGBT Rights Internationally
Google made a splash in the world of corporate activism over the weekend when top executives spoke to the media about the companys new "Legalize Love," campaign, an effort to extend support to workers in countries that criminalize homosexuality.
We are proud to be recognized as a leader in LGBT inclusion efforts, but there is still a long way to go to achieve full equality. "Legalize Love" is our call to decriminalize homosexuality and eliminate homophobia around the world, read a statement that appeared on the companys website Monday.
Speaking of its work ethic, Google emphasized the importance of ensuring an inclusive experience for its employees both at the office and in broader society.
Executive Mark Palmer-Edgecumbe said at a London-based global summit on LGBT employees last week that the globalized nature of Googles work means that differing levels of openness across countries have ramifications for Googles workforce. .............(more)

AFA Calls for a Google Boycott
In not-so-surprising news today, Right Wing Watch reported that the American Family Association's Buster Wilson this week floated the idea of a Google boycott, in response to the tech company's heralded new "Legalize Love"campaign. Google said their new international campaign was aimed at decriminalizing homosexuality and eliminating homophobia around the globe. The AFA already boycotts the maker of Oreo cookies (thanks to their rainbow pride cookie ad from June) and Home Depot (for their pro-LGBT employee policies). But Wilson told listeners of AFA's radio program, AFA Today, that the boycott would, naturally be a tough one, but one that would test the meat of our convictions.
Of course, AFA members may have to look high and low for a search engine that meets their convictions, since Bing oft cited as the next largest search engine is owned by Microsoft, a company that recently endorsed marriage equality as well.
