Trump's speech represents the values of the BSA in 2017.

The sitting U.S. President serves as the BSAs honorary president. It is our long-standing custom to invite the U.S. President to the National Jamboree.
They own this shit now. Just rename that putrid organization the Trump Youth and get it over with.

(8,704 posts)The Boy Scouts of America is wholly non-partisan and does not promote any one position-" That's a lie. They're telling your kid to be more like trumpf. Trumpf is a un-American racist bigot.
They're now basically just another far right group.

(15,805 posts)POLICY ON SCOUT PARTICIPATION IN POLITICAL EVENTS
Uniformed unit members and leaders may participate in flag ceremonies at political events and may lead the Pledge of Allegiance; however, they should retire after the ceremony and not remain on the speakers platform or in a conspicuous location where attendees or viewers could construe their presence as an endorsement or symbol of support. In addition, photos of candidates or Scouts in uniform or with BSA marks and logos are not allowed in political campaign materials of any kind.
Volunteers and professionals must be alert to situations that would imply BSA favoritism for one candidate over another. Strict observance of our longstanding policy against the active participation of uniformed Scouts and leaders in political events is mandatory.

To fail to stand up to a bully who is mongering hate and division is the antithesis of what the BSA purports to teach.

I have mixed thoughts about the scouts. The shit national has have done over the years pisses me off. But as a scout then as a adult who volunteered as a cub leader, committee member, and a scout master I saw what the local troops could do for the kids. It was a inner city troop. We were chartered by a baptist church. Some would see red flags at this. But that wasn't the case. I'm not baptist so I was surprised when they asked me to become the scout master. Most of the committee members were from the church and had kids in the troop.
We had Christian, Jewish and Muslim kids. We didn't go in to religion or politics. The troop was pretty diverse racially. We had a pretty even mix black, latino, white kids and adults. A couple of the eagle scouts including my son and I stayed on after he turned 18 to help the next scout master get up to speed. He was the first Jewish scout master at that baptist church. My Assistant scout master and his wife (committee member) was a late 70's to early 80's mixed race couple that caught hell. But not at the church.
End result the scouts do a lot of good, but the leadership at the Jamboree should have stepped in during his speech. Those there should hand in their resignation for allowing that to go on.
