U.S. FDA aims to cut nicotine in cigarettes, ease e-cigarette rules
(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration aims to reduce nicotine levels in cigarettes while exploring measures to move smokers toward e-cigarettes, in a major regulatory shift announced on Friday that sent traditional cigarette company stocks plunging.
The move means FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has sided at least partially with e-cigarettes in the debate over whether they potentially hold some public health benefits, though he signaled an intention to curtail kid-friendly flavored products.
"Its hard to overstate what this could mean for the companies affected: non-addictive levels of nicotine would likely mean a lot fewer smokers and of those people who do still light up, smoking a lot less," said Neil Wilson, a senior market analyst with ETX Capital in London.
"This is just the U.S. regulator acting but we can easily see others, particularly in Europe, where regulatory pressures are already extremely high, following suit," Wilson said.
British American Tobacco shares fell as much as 11 percent while Altria fell as much as 16 percent.

(3,473 posts)1. E cigarettes got me off real cigarettes.
It is way cheaper, especially if you make your own juice which isn't that hard to do. And I feel a lot healthier.

If it wasn't for e-cigs I'm sure I'd still be smoking. Any hints on making your own juice?

http://vapingunderground.comI learned everything about it there. The community is very helpful and will answer any questions you have.
I spent about $140 and got the supplies (PG, VG, nicotine base, flavors, bottles and a scale) to make 3 liters of juice. I'm on my phone but I can post a little more info later.
edit:
This is a helpful video tutorial.
This is the scale I bought:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HCKQG7G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I strongly recommend using a scale over syringes that you have to buy and clean. It's a lot more convenient.
*A note on the scale: Whichever one you get, you want one that can measure .00 mg. They have an auto-zero function. The scale will zero itself over very slight changes, so once your tare is set if you add single drops it might not register. It's best to add a few drops with the bottle off the scale and then set it back down to continue.
I bought the nicotine from:
https://www.myfreedomsmokes.com
I got the VG and PG from:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C7MTLA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005F5OJG6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I buy my flavors at:
http://www.bullcityflavors.com/
I would recommend spending some time searching through the recipe threads at vapingundergound and picking out some recipes that sound good to you and making a list of all the flavors you need. There is also a comunity recipe section at bullcity that shows you a list of recipes and what flavors you need.

(11,862 posts)4. If one cannot go cold turkey (me) e-cigs are the only other way
I do believe my addiction is oral...I can't tell the difference between 18 mg or 12 mg of nicotine, but I am constantly 'smoking' my e-cig
