The Affordable Care Act has survived yet another effort to snuff it out. And one reason is a simple reality that Republicans have rarely been willing to admit ― to their supporters, to the general public, and perhaps even to themselves.
It turns out Obamacare has made life better for a great many people.
Millions of Americans now have health insurance because the law has put it within financial reach. They are enrolling in Medicaid, or buying private insurance with the help of tax credits ― and taking advantage of laws that prohibit insurers from denying coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Millions more have insurance that is cheaper, better, or more comprehensive than what they could get before. They are more financially secure, they have better access to care, and they are probably getting healthier, too.

(1,714 posts)for lots of people. My son's gf's mom had her first mammogram ever and got an early breast cancer diagnosis. It probably saved her life.
OTOH, premiums and deductibles are so high that there are lots of people who won't use the insurance because they are paying so much out-of-pocket before their insurance kicks in.
Just out of curiosity, how much is your premium and deductible?

(1,965 posts)Premium is $54 and change monthly. Co pays for meds were $5, but I met my annual out of pocket expenses of $1250 months ago so everything right now is cost free, to me.

(1,714 posts)Premium we were quoted was $1700/month (silver plan) with a $9000 deductible. Two plans only. One covered one of my docs, the other covered neither. We are solidly middle class, not eligible for any subsidies.
I'm not a big fan of the ACA. There has to be a better way.

(1,965 posts)2 different nearly month long hospitalizations, along with i major surgery and a several "procedures", I was forced to get my pension going much more early than I would have wished. Now I make in a month what I made before in a week. That is the main factor in my low rates, I believe.

Always grateful to Obama for using his political capital to help so many of us.
