Without China's aid, North Korea would not exist making nukes with Seattle, San Francisco, and LA's names on them.
Blame China.
Even the first Korean War we had thousands of Chinese supporting them.
We should be boycotting Chinese crap, not enriching them.
But I agree

(15,805 posts)Blame Bush. Remember, the Bush administrations inept diplomacy ruled out any direct talks with North Korea until Kim Jong Il had verifiably terminated his nuclear weapons program. Bush's demand backfired and North Korea rapidly expanded its nuclear-weapons development and conducted its first underground test with no oversight or intervention on our part. In pretending that a crisis didn't exist, Bush, the president of the world's most powerful nation, allowed himself to be outmaneuvered by a tinpot dictator of a third world country.
Now Trump is repeating the same mistake.
China didn't help North Korea develop a nuclear bomb, it was Pakistan.
China cannot allow North Korea to collapse because if the government fails, millions of starving, desperate refugees would flood into China, destabilizing their economy creating an international crisis.

(12,676 posts)I'm not one bit a fan of China's regime, but I do understand their culture some. They're losing face in the world - the worst thing that could happen to their nation's honor and self-imagebecause of North Korea's current actions; if they could control that country, they would.
This is all North Korea's Kim Dynasty, with maybe a bit of push from Russia, because a destabilized China is a benefit to them.
Kim III started acting up and pushing his missile programs during the primaries in response to rhetoric against their country, how our "Big, Strong, Grownup" Drumpf was going to punish China for currency manipulations and North Korea for being North Korea.
Like typical bullies, Drumpf and his people want someone to bomb to look strong, and North Korea is one of the few countries in the world that wouldn't get any support when Drumpf wanted to play "Big Boy on the Playground". So of course Kim would ramp up production. Anyone with a modicum of knowledge of the history of the area would realize that.
And anyone with half a brain in their heads rather than up their asses would make sure that Kim would be left enough alone so that he wouldn't be in such a gawd-damn hurry to show he's not afraid of anything and that the U.S. can't be the boss of him.
Where is Richardson when you need him? Hell, at this point, I'd be cheering on Dennis Rodman...

China aided North Korea after they explicitly stated that US forces should not approach the Yalu river. We ignored this warning, who knows, maybe MacArthur did intend to provoke a war with China. Obviously it backfired, when China sent troops and over ran US positions. The Soviet "volunteers" with their MiG's also taking away air superiority pushed everything back.
If MacArthur halted, North Korea would have been between a rock and a hard place. Who knows, maybe Beijing and Moscow would have negotiated on their behalf, what they would have preferred, a demilitarized peninsula.
Add to that, pissing off China and Russia isn't the answer to this solution. The best solution will be the one they are involved in. In fact, if there is a military solution, they are ones who should execute it. On our side, it should be nothing more than evacuating from the border and wiping out any nuclear capability they have.
