Missouri's Right to Work stalled!

A couple of years ago Right to Work was a ballot measure that lost by 70 percent of the vote. In January the new legislature voted it in, defying the will of the people. (They also enacted a state law stating cities cannot set their own minimum wage, special session voting against reproductive rights, etc. They've been busy.)

AFL-CIO took up arms and started a petition. Yesterday they officially received enough signatures to place it back on the ballot in 2018,along with a measure about Jeff City not having the authority to overrule ballot measures.Right to Work cannot be enacted until that election.

It's a good day in Missouri. RtW temporarily stopped, KC voted in a $15 an hour minimum wage and a Democrat almost won a Republican district.

Give it a year. We can do this!

I was pretty upset when they overrode an animal rights issue that was voted in by Missouri voters several years back...these guys in the legislature are constantly going against the will of the people / voters in MO. Seem to forget that government is for the people and by the people, and not for just a select few.

Why do we even need the MO legislature and governor, if they are not responding to the common, everyday Missourian, and their needs?

With the arrival of the electronic age, it's time to do away w/ the MO legislature and governorship (as well as federal legislative and executive branches) and go directly to the American people electronically.

Set up a monthly event where everyone votes electronically (providing free electronic access at our public libraries/etc.) on issues of the month, e.g., higher minimum wage, subsidize a business to open here in MO, etc. other types of issues that Missourians should vote on, as long as a quorum is met, e.g., 60% of all voters.

We'd save tons of $, and I think we do a better job of representing the state of MO.

Of someone votingin place of their family members.

What part of the state are you in? Just curious, in case I might know a candidate for you.

(Just saw St Louis. Remember Claire next year and if you have Facebook follow Gary Winston Apple for updates about possible ballot measures for 2018.)

Located in St. Louis MO. Like Claire, will look at Mr. Apple...thanks!

Good point on family members voting in lieu of the correct family member. Perhaps have a periodic everyone goes to vote at polling stations (where monitoring can be properly done) on laws written by independent body based upon voters' preferences/desires. Certain quorum would have to be met, so laws don't get passed w/ a very minimal turnout, e.g., 5% vote on totally undesirable law by masses...

Thanks and Take care...

We need more Dems, or this GA will use different language and pass something that is essentially the same, as they did after the conceal carry referrendum was voted down.
There is a lot to do and thousands of things that require our attention, but we have to keep the momentum on this going.

Follow Gary Winston Apple. He's heavily involved in getting a number of ballot initiatives ready for 2018.

One of the big two, RtW, is now ready. The plan is to make it a one-two punch with ballot measures for November 2018. The second one, with a bit more time left to petition, is legalizing medical marijuana. Two years ago it missed going on the ballot by a total of five signatures. This time the groups are savvy about what's needed.

The plan is to get as many ballot measures ready for November 2018 as possible. Assisting with signatures keeps current members busy. Putting measures about minimum wage, RtW and marijuana will hopefully bring in voters who usually do not vote outside of presidential elections. I recently worked a booth at a fair and we registered several to vote because of interest in defeating RtW and medical marijuana.

It can be done.
