Evangelical adviser pushes Trump toward biblical nuclear strike

With the world nearing the nuclear brink, megachurch preacher Robert Jeffress can scarcely contain his apocalyptic glee.

Eager to pour gasoline on a mercifully smoldering fire, Jeffress spouted his uneducated opinion to the Washington Post about nuclear statecraft and diplomatic relations:

“When it comes to how we should deal with evildoers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” Jeffress said. “In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un.”
….
The biblical passage Romans 13 gives the government authority to deal with evildoers, Jeffress said.

“That gives the government to [sic] the authority to do whatever, whether it’s assassination, capital punishment or evil punishment to quell the actions of evildoers like Kim Jong Un,” he said.

Those whiney, cowardly bullies and cynical con artists who justify breaking every single one of the three different sets of the ten commandments and most every one of the laws in their own "Holy Books" they're supposed to peddling to the masses because "I'm rich and can get people to follow me - that proves I have God's Favor and approval to do or say anything I feel like at any moment..."

Leaving aside, well, everything else... maybe we shouldn't let the people operating 2,000 year old software in their heads run the planet.

to the DMZ. Let him cross the border and do his best. That's what I recommend. Hell, if Gawd is on his side, he's bound to prevail, right? We could all chip in to pay for the flight, I think.

14. Lazy and ego tripping

You're looking at the global situation and you think, "Wow, that is one overflowing toilet of turds!" You could just put it out of your mind, and a lot of people do. You could say, "I really need to do something about this," and so you look for ways to make things better. Maybe you get involved in a community outreach program, mentor some at-risk youth, or send some money to a do-gooder agency. But you do something.

Now, what if you're concerned, but you're too lazy or selfish to actually try to change things? Lucky for you there's a whole cottage industry of folks who will absolve you from all responsibility, pretend you're doing something great, and buoy you up on the promise of a complete resolution of all the bad things you're seeing. Not only will this mess be cleaned up to your satisfaction, you will be totally vindicated and the people you hate will be justly punished. As an added ego-tripping bonus, you're practically mentioned by name in the Bible as one of those on the side of the angels!

Things are in a big mess, but you don't have to do anything. In fact, by doing something, you might just be postponing the great and glorious day when Jesus comes rampaging down from the sky and sets everything to right. You don't want that, do you? Just sit back and wait for Jesus to appear, wave His magic God-wand, and enjoy the spectacle as the wicked get just what they deserve, while you get a holy pat on the back, and a "Well done, though good and faithful servant" before entering into the eternal Joy of the Master.

Until that time comes, you're 100% justified in doing nothing, carping about everything that displeases you, and condemning everyone who isn't with the program (and maybe a few suspicious folks who are with the program, but you just can't be too careful). If this is you, your name might just be Robert Jeffress.

15. They want to trigger the apocalypse on purpose

They want to destroy the world because they think their God will sweep them up into heaven.

As an atheist, I take a cold comfort in knowing they're going to be just as fucked as the rest of humanity when their sky fairy fails to show up.
