I received this e-mail today from the League of Conservation Voters:
"Dear (Tanuki),
We have just discovered that operatives associated with extreme right-wing groups assumed fake identities to meet with our staff, our supporters, and other members of our movement over a period of several months.
These groups engage in deceptive tactics to obtain and distribute manipulated information to harm progressive organizations. They should know exactly who theyre dealing with.
The League of Conservation Voters has nearly 2 million members, and we have been a leading voice for environmental protection for nearly 50 years. We will not let them do this to our organization and most importantly to the people and issues we advocate for.
We are proud of our work, and we wont be intimidated.
We have notified the Attorney Generals office in California,1 where the activity began, and we may pursue legal action against these individuals and others associated with this fraudulent activity.
We have sought to publicize what we have uncovered to ensure that others know who these imposters are and can stop them if they try to infiltrate another organization.
We know that the groups practice deceptive, sham tactics and their secretly taped videos are selectively edited. We know that they are willing to break the law to further their surreptitious objectives.
We also know that we cannot let this distract from what matters most. Right now, we are facing an administration working to roll back progress on climate change, clean air, and clean water.
That fight has made us a target, but it has to continue. So Im asking for your help, (Tanuki).
Please share this email widely. We want everyone to know about these fraudulent and deceitful tactics and issue a warning to others about possible infiltration.

(I also found the following online after reading the e-mail):
http://www.rawstory.com/2017/08/fail-league-of-conservation-voters-appears-to-have-busted-another-right-wing-james-okeefe-sting/
"James OKeefe, the notorious right-wing sting artist, may have just gotten busted conducting another failed operation.
The New Yorkers Jane Mayer reports that the League of Conservation Voters has filed a complaint against a group of individuals that it believes could be associated with OKeefe right now, and who at least have documented past ties to him.
The complaint, which was filed with the California Department of Justice last week, alleges that several individuals conducted a carefully orchestrated operation to infiltrate the League of Conservation Voters in an apparent attempt to dig up damaging information on the environmental advocacy organization.
LCVs letter describes an elaborate, six-month-long scheme, Mayer reports. It alleges that the three operatives created false personas backed up with fake Facebook, LinkedIn, and e-mail accounts under which they met with dozens of the groups staffers, board members, and donors, and gained access to confidential information. According to the letter, at least two of the individuals
have reportedly worked with OKeefe in the past.
The LCV started to suspect the longtime OKeefe associates were scamming the organization last month, and it began discovering that the social media pages they offered to bolster their credentials were only created recently and they had several friends from Southeast Asia, which likely indicated they used bot factories to artificially inflate their friend counts.
OKeefe would not confirm nor deny any involvement in the botched sting operation when contacted by Mayer."

(14,918 posts)"Philadelphia, PA Today, from the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, League of Conservation Voters (LCV) president Gene Karpinski will announce that Republican Presidential Nominee Donald J. Trump is being named to the LCVs signature Dirty Dozen list for the 2016 cycle.
The stakes could not be higher climate change is happening now, and yet Donald Trump calls it and I quote a hoax. Gene will say in his remarks later today. And more than just deny it, his policies would make climate change worse. His energy plan would mean more pollution in our air, more poison in our water, and more public lands stripped for private profit. That may be good for the Koch Brothers and Big Oil. But Trumps policies would be terrible for our families or our future. Thats why today were naming Donald Trump to our Dirty Dozen list I cant imagine anyone more deserving.
Donald Trump is uniquely unqualified to be president, and uniquely qualified for the Dirty Dozen. His views on climate and clean air and water protections are completely out of step with the American people. He has stated that:
The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese to make the United States less competitive. He has also referred to climate change as bullsh*t, a hoax, and a money-making industry.
He would have skipped the international Paris climate summit, arguing that there were more important things to do. He recently added that he is not a big fan of the agreement, and that he would, at a minimum, renegotiate it.
He has repeatedly called for cutting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA is charged with executing and enforcing the Clean Power Plan and the Clean Water Rule; if Trump eliminated funding the agency itself, both rules would effectively be nullified.
For 20 years, the Dirty Dozen has targeted candidates regardless of party affiliation who consistently side against the environment and are running in races in which LCV has a serious chance to affect the outcome. Last cycle, LCV defeated seven of the 12 Dirty Dozen candidates. In the last presidential year of 2012, LCV defeated 11 of 12."

(So yes, it's easy to see why they would be a target)

(44,131 posts)* It still ticks me off that Dems in Congress rolled over regarding ACORN. Nay Senate votes: Burris (D-IL), Casey (D-PA), Durbin (D-IL), Gillibrand (D-NY), Leahy (D-VT), Sanders (I-VT) & Whitehouse (D-RI).
