"THANK Putin?" one @StateDept official said. "I don't have words that are printable to describe my reaction."
A senior U.S. diplomat serving overseas called Trump's remarks "outrageous" and said it could lead more State Department staffers to head for the exits.
"This is so incredibly demoralizing and disrespectful to people serving their country in harm's way," the diplomat said.
"I kid you not, I have heard from three different people in the last five minutes," one State Department official told POLITICO shortly after Trump's comments. "Everyone seems pretty amazed. This statement is naive and shortsighted. It sends a terrible signal to local employees everywhere."
"THANK Putin?" another bewildered State Department official responded. "I don't have words that are printable to describe my reaction."

(22,176 posts)I never could stand to watch this show when it was on, and I never watched a complete show, in full, for I couldn't the idiotic rationale tRUMP put out there often times.
Too bad the charities/actors (male and female) that participated in Apprentice are now viewed negatively in participating in this farce of a show...

(51,643 posts)That's what the fake prez would say is presidential language "so lighten up dude".
He has no idea how ridiculous his "jokes" are when it comes to diplomacy and from the "leader of the free world". I think that last part is soon going to be "former leader of the free world".

(253 posts)I watched the clip three or four times. It was no Joke, Period! I know that the Trumpians often try to help Trump wheedle out of his egregious remarks by claiming they're just jokes, but has anybody seen such a ploy being used regarding this thoroughly weak and stupid pronouncement by Trump? Not even his biggest supporters are excusing him for this non-joke.

(15,805 posts)Why do they think that's a plausible excuse for Trump letting Putin kick out 750 US diplomats on the back of congressional sanctions against Russia? Will Trump still be joking after one of his pet generals tells him that Putin stole his sovereign authority, diminished his global power in the eyes of the world, and now he looks like a drooling fool for thanking Putin for slapping him in the face and giving him a wedgie.

Anyone who watched that clip would see he was not joking.

Take your pick.

(11,528 posts)When I first saw this bit of news I was in disbelief. This has got to be at (or near) the top of the list of stupid that's come out of 45*'s mouth since he's occupied our White House.

(56,829 posts)This might be the absolutely dumbest thing he's said since taking office. If not, it's right near the top.
He criticizes the US Congress for passing Russia Sanctions... but, thanks Putin for sanctioning the US. The statement from Moscow will just be a retweet of Trump's comments.
I can just see it now:
Reporter: "The Russians just bombed Ramstein Air Base in Germany, what is your response?"
Trump: "I'd like to thank Putin for reducing the cost of maintaining all those tanks, planes and helicopters, and for reducing our personnel costs in the region."

(19,204 posts)If Obama had thanked a foreign aggressor for sanctioning America and harming our interests the Cons in Congress would have impeached him the very next day.
Trump is not rooting for America to succeed.

(22,176 posts)As usual, disgusting and clearly shows how incompetent tRUMP is, and this is not because he's new to politics...if he's been around for any length of time (as a so called 'billionaire', yeah, right) he should have already known about the diplomats probably will be reassigned to other posts, etc. and 'jobs' and their pay isn't really truly gone
These diplomats should be touted and congratulated on doing a great job despite tremendous odds w/ their idiot-in-chief president...
Best wishes and hopes to these expelled diplomats for doing a difficult job...
