as Rachel reported is a rumored possibility, with Perry moving to DHS, and a Republican appointed to Manchin's Semate seat?
Manchin would have to be a complete fool to see the Trump administration as anything by a gigantic clusterfuck, headed by a maniac who uses people and discards them, often ruining their credibility and reputation in the process.
I find it hard to believe Manchin would be that foolish. I can't imagine what Trump could offer him to make him risk all the destructive craziness of this administration.

(6,251 posts)Manchin won't take the bait. He had some initial problems when he arrived in the Senate, after two terms as governor. It was tough for him to go from being the one in charge to being just one of one hundred. But I've heard him speak in the last couple of years, and I think he is now comfortable in this legislative role.
And he's capable of counting the numbers in the senate and of looking at the newly-christened Republican governor of West Virginia (Jim Justice). Manchin really, really wanted Robert Byrd's Senate seat when Byrd passed away. But Manchin was the governor at the time, and felt that appointing himself would be a bad idea (and a great way to lose the next election). So Manchin appointed a buddy who held the seat until the scheduled election in 2010.
Manchin knows how the game is played. I think he'll say thanks but no thanks, if an offer is actually made.
