This is why you shouldn't have a foot on the dashboard.

Or, if you're in the front seat, a pet in your lap.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/after-painful-crash-mom-warns-passengers-to-keep-feet-off-of-the-dashboard/

"All my life I had my legs crossed and my foot on the dash," Tatum told CBS News. "My husband always told me, 'You're going to get in a wreck someday, and you're going to break your legs.'"

Tatum assured him he was wrong.

"I'll put my foot down in time," she would always reply.

But two years ago, on August 2, 2015, Tatum's perspective changed completely.

The couple was heading to her parents' house about 4 miles away to pick up her two sons when a car pulled in front of her husband and they T-boned him. Everyone was able to walk away from the scene with scrapes and bruises, except for Tatum.

"The airbag went off, throwing my foot up and breaking my nose," Tatum explained. "I was looking at the bottom of my foot facing up at me."

We take long car trips together often, and putting a foot up helped the traveler's sore butt.

On one trip, he left his tool box in my feet compartment. A small, hard plastic box, about the size of a shoe box makes a great footstool! I can put one, or both feet up, and I never feel the need to put my feet on the dash.

I got my own cute, pink one, full of all my goodies, and It travels with me everywhere i go.

Objects ricochet inside the car, the sports gear, the pets, the contents of your purse, groceries, everything goes flying. My niece got a concussion and broke her nose from getting bashed by a can of peaches that was thrown from the back of her SUV.

A local man was paralyzed when his laptop flew through the car in a fender bender and broke his neck.

We keep most everything stored in hub's giant console compartment, and my little box is usually mostly empty. I do find the box very convenient to store small items I need to access quickly. Phone, charger, keys, wallet...everything else gets put away.

Besides, I like to ride in a tidy vehicle. Almost obcessively, even.

Excellent advice you have provided here. Appreciated.
