First he came for Carrier and I did not speak out. . .

One of TRump's first acts as president was to criticize Carrier letting all companies know that he would use his bully pulpit to unlevel the playing field, drop a stock price in a day and make false claims.

The CEO's did not stand up to Trump, but took notice: you are either on Trump's side or you're an enemy.

Then Trump upped the ante by "inviting" companies to join is "advisory boards".

Again the CEO's did not stand up to Trump.

Claiming that Trump is pro-business, they ignore the fear that he has engendered. Through 8 months of Trump's administration, most companies have acquiesced to giving public support to Trump.

This is how oligarchs are made: company's given favor by the president are seen by other companies as places that not only, in some respect "protected", but that they can use to curry favor with the president. Then the president promises his favorites that they can get state contracts or even monopolies from the government. Once the companies are rewarded, the president will call in his favors asking usually for "donations" to the president, his family or his foundation.
