When it's used here it means the people that were #neverhillary, who claim that there's no real difference between republicans and democrats, and so on.

Trump used it to refer to anybody that opposes him. Any liberal, any democrat is "alt-left" to him. Just like right wingers called Obama (of all people!) a radical Leftist.

Trump is trying to hammer home the "many sides" garbage by calling anti-nazis "alt-left".

There IS no equivalency between these people and anyone on the left -- but the term "alt left" implies there is, which means they're violent too, which means they can be cracked down on too, which means the peaceful protesters and activists will be all the more in jeopardy and vulnerable.

Progressives, democrats, socialists are not afraid to self identify accurately. I consider myself a Roosevelt democrat. If anything it's a distinction, nothing more. I will NOT allow that dumbass mutt in the whitehouse to categorize me.
