McAuliffe calls for removal of Confederate monuments in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. ... "I encourage Virginia’s localities and the General Assembly – which are vested with the legal authority – to take down these monuments and relocate them to museums or more appropriate settings.:

... Mayor Levar Stoney said that effective immediately the Monument Avenue Commission will include an examination of the removal and/or relocation of some or all of the Confederate statues ...

“I hope we can all now agree that these symbols are a barrier to progress, inclusion and equality in Virginia,” <McAuliffe > wrote.

Prohibiting localities from moving statues. Alexandria wanted to move a Lee statue to a museum but could not without the legislature's approval.

Maybe in this climate the legislature will rethink its 19th century position.

Or, do what they did with Ashe, and replace with famous Richmond citizens: Shirley MacLaine and Warren Beatty, GWAR, Aimee Mann, Lucy Randolph Mason, etal....
