The Memo: GOP fears damage done by Trump

BY NIALL STANAGE at the Hill

"SNIP.............

As a week dominated by President Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville, Va., draws to a close, many Republicans are worried that serious damage has been done to their party.

Specifically, they argue that Trump may have set back by years efforts to make the GOP more appealing to an increasingly diverse American electorate.

.......

One veteran Republican strategist, who asked for anonymity to speak candidly, told The Hill that Trump’s response was “a f- - -ing disaster.” The source added, “I have no idea where we go from here.”

.......

The strategist who described Trump’s comments as a “disaster” said that the best way forward for candidates in next year’s midterms could be to run on local issues to avoid “nationalizing” their races. But even that might not be enough, the strategist added.

................SNIP"

(edited to say that they still like the Trump coalition).

this con man, four-fifths of Republicans supported him as of August 2017. 80% of the Republican party continue to support Trump. Trump and the Republican party are one and the same. Joined at the hip. They own this travesty, lock, stock, and barrel.

the party should start by condemning the Nazi's and other racist groups, and then try actually supporting diversity.
Can't put all the blame on Trump, they have to also blame McConnell, Ryan and most of the Republicans in office, as well as a sucky party platform.

Republican voters put Thump in the White House with the full support of the Republican Party's party machinery. Trump ran a race-baiting, xenophobic campaign. I have no pity, none, for the Trumpsters, the Right, or the Republicans that put him in office. I hope and pray decency returns to American politics and I hope that the electorate turns on them in fury.

What they are apparently choosing to ignore is that they are no longer the mainstream of the Republican party. Bannon is.
