Ask your Representatives to co-sponsor this bill to ban Federal funding of Confederate monuments.

If states want to keep these monuments to treason, then the states should bear 100% of the costs. US citizens shouldn't have to pay taxes to support the maintenance of statues honoring people who took up arms and killed US soldiers, in order to keep the system of slavery.

I first heard about this in the recent case where someone vandalized a Confederate statue, which meant he has broken Federal law because the statue is maintained with Federal funds!

It's a federal case because Hermann Park, where the Dowling statue is located, receives federal funding for its maintenance. Dowling had been hailed as a Confederate war hero in Houston during the Civil War, serving in the Jefferson Davis Guards.
