Not only do doxxers release information about their target they also frequently release information about their target's spouse, children, relatives and their work/school/church locations.

Then there is the high probability of false positives as in the Arkansas prof that ended up being identified wrongly as a nazi marcher which can destroy a person's reputation and potentially their life because some over-zealous internet sleuth ID'd them based on similar appearance, etc.

Even when they get the right people the impact can be devastating. Many (including right here on DU) were smug in celebrating the doxxing of members of the affair promoting website Ashley Madison. What came out later was that the site was used by LGBT men and women in places where they could be jailed or even executed, like the Middle East, to discreetly meet partners.

For this reason I oppose doxxing.

8chan was made from 4chan refugees, because 4chan banned talk of Gamergate (not because of any good reason; they were tired of talking about it).

I say "shit" not because I'm on the list (and wouldn't be on a list of people who dress like ninjas and throw rocks), but because that board might be one of the more wretched hives of scum and villainy on the internet.

And of course most of those people are probably just people on mailing lists or Twitter or politically active something, not rioting anarchists. I'm not sure how much I trust an 8chan shit lord to get it 100% accurate...

They literally copied a hack from several years earlier and re-released it.

Then, they released names of KKK members, but those names had been released previously. Many of those KKK members had been in some type of legal trouble an the info was publicly available in news articles online. (The news articles ID'd them as KKK members)
