Chelsea Clinton defends Barron Trump after conservative website bashes his clothes

Once again, Barron Trump has become the target of online criticism. And once again, political figures, celebrities and others on social media are standing up for the 11-year-old, imploring the media to keep the youngest Trump out of the negative limelight.

On Monday night, conservative news outlet the Daily Caller published a story attacking Barron for the T-shirt and shorts he wore while boarding Air Force One on Sunday. The headline read, “It’s High Time Barron Trump Starts Dressing Like He’s In the White House.”

In a barrage of angry tweets, many described the story as “mean spirited,” “shameful,” intrusive and irrelevant. The reactions shared a common understanding that the president’s children are supposed to be off-limits.

And former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, who has previously come to Barron’s defense, weighed in with a tweet: “It’s high time the media & everyone leave Barron Trump alone & let him have the private childhood he deserves.”

It really started with assholes slamming Chelsea; they skipped over the next few, and started in on Malia and Sasha. Now they're savaging their own.

This kid has it hard enough with a pair of assholes for parents. Leave him be.

Very unfortunately, this has gotten them a lot of attention. So we should expect more, and maybe decide not to repeat it.

The children may be old enough to determine if they want a public persona and speak for a cause when they are teenagers, but younger children shouldn't be the objects of attention for the press prior to those years.

and remember thinking they should let her go home to Georgia. Fortunately, IIRC, ALL the kids from Democratic Presidents, since JFK, turned out pretty darn good! Lots of the kids from Republican Presidents were older, and could withstand the pressure a little better, but none of THEM turned out horrible.

As far as I'm concerned, if the kids are adults? Have at it - but within reason. THEY didn't run for the Presidency, their Dad (or Mom, go Hillary!) did.

Amy Carter was attacked when she was about Bannon's age (and Chelsea's when she entered the White House.) I vaguely remember some criticism of the Johnson and Nixon daughters. I assume that history would show it existed earlier. (It might have increased as the media became increasingly more celebrity oriented rather than issue oriented. )

It's also not just the US. Though not exactly the same, I remember a British teen magazine I subscribed to in the 1960s bashing how Princess Ann dressed and looked contrasting with swinging London. ( I know the royal family does not govern, but it may be that as we have no "royal family", the First Family, as it is called, essentially becomes that in the media. )

It is fantastic that Chelsea, one of the few people who experienced this at a young age, is speaaking out.

Seriously... I can see exactly why Barack married her. We were blessed with her for 8 years in the White House. I'm sure the permanent White House staff are waiting patiently for 2021.... or earlier if we get our wishes granted.

The article says he's 11, but one of my cousins was just a bit taller, 6' at 12 years old, and he ultimately hit 6'6" before he finally stopped growing.

The media should leave him alone—it's not his fault his father's a colossal asshole.

but I don't think it's said often enough--if at all--that if the parents of these children did not want to risk exposing them to this kind of ugliness, they shouldn't have put their children in that position. Political parents know that there are no guarantees that their children will not be made fun of or at least criticized--and let me state again that mean comments about political kids are always--*always*--wrong--and they should be at least prepared to deal with this crap, or think again about running for public office.

There is a balance scale here: protection of my child's feelings on one side, my desire to be elected to office on the other.

in a suit-and-tie (akin to Alex P. Keaton) even prior to the campaign. Even Melania put out statements that it was Barron's preference.

(In a related story, a college acquaintance of Don Jr. recounted how Trump hit his son when he opened his dorm room door and found Jr. in a Yankees' Tee and shorts. (They were going to a game.) And Trump coldly ordered his son to change into a suit-and-tie.

Let the kid be a kid and wear Tees and shorts until he has a job.
