Why?

Because he was forced into giving a pre-written teleprompter address that in typical fashion he delivered like a fourth grader delivering a book report in front of his class.

He hates being corralled into given formal addresses. If he could go completely without a teleprompter and just go stream of consciousness 100% of the time like he did during the primaries, that's what he'd want to do.

And whenever he seems forced into giving a prepared address, he likes to lash out and go wild to prove to his base that he's still his own man. As a prime example, see his press conference they day after he finally "condemned" the Charlottesville Nazis with oh so much enthusiasm.

Donald Trump will be in Arizona and we want to send a very clear message that we will not pardon white supremacy the way he has done with #Charlottesville. This week we saw how he quickly defended his partner in racism, Joe Arpaio, as Trump told Fox News he is “seriously considering” issuing a pardon for former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio.  Arpaio was convicted last month of criminal contempt for ignoring a judge’s order to stop racially profiling detainees.
