Yes, it would be nice to win a part of the jackpot, but money is not everything! Look what money did to Trump and he won a different kind of lottery and turn out to be a real asshole! I would love to win enough to retire from driving a truck and be able to give my mother a really nice place to live. She has a nice house, but it is old and it needs some major repairs.
What would do if you win? I hope you remember me, your long lost cousin from another mother!

(21,716 posts)I only buy 1 because it is worth the $2 to have a chance. Buying more really doesn't increase your odds at all. Then I have dreams about what I would do if I win. $2 for my daydreams.

(89 posts)Money has nothing to do with his assholery.
I would love e to win because wealth is freedom. When you don't have to worry about money, you can do whatever you want.
What would I do? Sleep until I was ready to get up, every day.

If you take the cash option, of course
What would I do?
First, get the HELL out of Dodge! For 6 months at least.
Travel. A LOT!
Take all the great train journeys of the world.
Spend 2 or more nights in all the great, historic hotels.
Tip every food service person $1000
When I got done screwing around, do some real good for a lot of people.
Fund a music department at my old high school. Set up scholarships for the students.
Buy one of those big customized Prevost motor coaches and put 100,000 miles on it and never drive on an interstate
In short, do good things and have fun.

Top marginal rate is 39.6%
So it would be a wee tic higher, as the first $400k is taxed at lower rates, but I'm pretty close

(2,897 posts)With the first payment of 7 mil, I'd buy a penthouse with controlled access and a door man in my state and spend the year catching up on the necessary financial information that I'd need to handle such wealth. I'd tell my parents and siblings that they could retire.
I'd set up some sort of intermediary between myself and non-core family members/everyone else (everyone outside of my nuclear family) for financial transactions.
I would spend a lot of time figuring out what I wanted to do career wise. I wouldn't retire in my twenties, but I definitely wouldn't go back into the work force with the goal of earning a pay check to sustain my lifestyle.
I might go to grad school.
I'd travel eventually, but I'd probably spend the first 6 months to a year in relative seclusion in my luxury penthouse (my family will be around) cooking fine meals, drinking fine spirits and watching movies and playing games.

(20,190 posts)*That's the limit you can give to a person and not have to pay gift tax (40%!). If you're married, you can each give $14K to as many people as you want. You can give that much to each of the members of a family. Maybe I would marry a friend so we can give twice as much to people!
I would set up some scholarships. I would give big gifts to Planned Parenthood and other worthy causes. I would contribute to some Democrats campaigns! I'd buy some medical and student loan debt for pennies on the dollar.
I'm 60 and used to living on $30K or less, so I could live like a queen on $100K a year. That leaves a lot to do good things with. I have lots of ideas!
*After consulting with an attorney and an accountant of course

(5,624 posts)Between their hourly wage and the 15 dollars an hour minimum wage many are now fighting to get. Maybe if they only had to work one job they might have the time and strength to get some additional education to help them reach their potential.
