Shocked to see Erik Prince "op ed" in NYTimes...pushing for "contractors"

in Afghanistan. I'm bitterly disappointed that he was given a free platform to promote his lucrative mercenary business/privatized army, to be paid for by us taxpayers. He even has the gall to compare his for-profit soldiers of fortune to the Flying Tigers!
I'm linking but not quoting this despicable and sociopathic war profiteer.

I don't have a problem with printing the op ed. It demonstrates that the NYT is willing to present alternative view points.

Now will WSJ, Fox News, etc. allow such openness as well.

tradition of diversity of opinion, which also includes printing "letters to the editor", that is one of the cornerstones of the "free press" and therefore, our democracy.

That tradition has been undermined by social media (including DU), where we each hear our own opinions echoed back to us. Look how well that's served our current resident and our country.

The antidote to opinions we don't like is expressing opinions we do like; not suppressing opinions. We just need to ensure that there are forums for us to express our opinions, and they've not all been suppressed by an authoritarian state.

reprinted it on its editorial page today. I don't understand how anyone thinks this is a good idea. The wingers suddenly love government when they can make money off of it.
