Orlando Sentinel: Hurricane Irma forecast to be in Florida on Friday

Hurricane Irma is working its way through the Caribbean today and could reach Florida by Friday, forecasters say.

Meteorologists expect the Category 3 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, to remain a “dangerous major hurricane” through the week and to arrive in South Florida by Friday morning.

Modeling by the National Hurricane Center shows the outer bands of the slow-moving, potentially dangerous storm lashing Key West and Miami by 8 a.m.

Irma is continuing a slow march toward the Leeward Islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, Montserrat and St. Kitts, which are bracing for the storm’s arrival late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

7. Yep, I just saw that. I've got a feeling this is going to be bad. I was listening to one

weather person wherein they were saying it might not go north as much as previously thought. It looks like it's going to likely hit the east coast, then one was saying there's a chance it might go up into the gulf. Just so unpredictable at this stage. Gov. of Florida called a nation emergency for all counties in Florida just awhile ago.

look like a walk in the park. We will have better idea in 2 days. I have kids who live in West Palm Beach and Delray Beach and they report stores shelves are empty. My son is ordering off of amazon as he can get 1 or 2 day delivery

9. We're still waiting for the tracks to come together, so we know which way to head.

We have a RV, we're already packed, ready to load it up and get out. Problem is, the tracks for the storm are all so different, it's difficult to know which way to head. We've left too early before and just ended up driving into where the storm ended up heading.

Tough spot to be in. Leave too early and possibly go the wrong way, leave too late and get caught up in traffic. The main arteries out of Florida will be jammed toward the weekend, no doubt.

My poor mom has anxiety and depression (as do I, though not as bad) and she's already in tears and convinced the worst of everything is going to happen. There's not much I can say to reason with her about it, though for her sake, I think our family may end up taking the home insurance if it's destroyed and moving away from any hurricane prone states.

a good chance it'll go from 4 to 5.

15. I live in NW Florida....Pensacola.

People here are drop dead serious about hurricane preparation. The local news tonight just did a story about the stores already being slammed with people buying hurricane prep materials and supplies. Water, generators, batteries...the whole enchilada. No one knows where it is going but no one here is taking this one lightly. We hope it does not come here (Ivan was our last big one in 2004) bt we're watching and cautiously waiting. Gov. Scott (Skeletor) has declared a state of emergency in all 67 counties in FL.

16. I hope you all are OK. The darn thing is so unpredictable. I heard one forecaster say it

has the potential to be a cat 5. I've heard in south Florida the shelves are getting pretty empty. Hopefully it will go northward and miss the US, so hard to tell yet. Yep, best to be prepared than waiting.
